I was just coming to recommend Blazing Star. I'm also curious about Pawarumi, anyone played that one? Seems mechanically Ikaruga-esque.

Ghost Leviathan posted:Nintendo notoriously keeps their releases close to their chest, Metroid Prime 4 being a significant deviation there, and combined with COVID pretty much setting the entire industry back at least a year at this point, I'd advise patience to be a virtue, and not expect old patterns to hold true. Metroid Prime 4 got announced early presumably because people just would not shut up about it. The problem with doing so is it turned the fanbase into clock-watchers on its development and it hasn't exactly been a neat-and-clean project since.

The problem with Metroid 4 is it was developed to run on next gen systems. Then when they tried to make it run on the switch, the devkit melted.

Real question: how safe, generally, is hacking a switch? I kinda like the idea of themes other than the base one but if it's a huge pain or locks anything out I won't bother.

Waltzing Along posted:The problem with Metroid 4 is it was developed to run on next gen systems. Then when they tried to make it run on the switch, the devkit melted. I am assuming at this point that Metroid Prime 4, and Bayonetta 3, will be exclusive on whatever next system Nintendo has in development. Breath of the Wild 2, I am betting will work on the current Switch, but will be near unplayable, and its performance on the next Nintendo system will be really good.

How safe is it? YMMV but you really shouldn't run a hacked Switch outside of Airplane Mode. It's really not a tenable thing to do except for homebrew or piracy.

It's safe in the sense that you probably won't brick it (as long as you have a working NAND backup you can always recover) but there's a high risk of the console getting permabanned from online services, unless you're careful to separate your activities between "modded NAND that never goes online" and "stock NAND that goes online"

I never should have transferred my Warframe account to my Switch. I haven't played in over a year and it's almost 22 gigs of space on my memory card. Deathstate is technically a Dodge 'Em Up, but those shooter skills directly translate. Waffle! fucked around with this message at 17:29 on Mar 1, 2021 |

I'm not a shmup person, but I do think the genre is really interesting. For the fans, how long do you play a game? Do you keep at it until you 1CC it? What makes one your favorite? Art, game mechanics, music? I'm sure it's a combination but I'd love to hear about what's unique to the genre.

Mister Facetious posted:The Switch OS and UI is more responsive than a PS4 with 2gb of ram dedicated to just that. Anything that would compromise that speed should not be implemented. That argument is demonstrably false -- I've got hacked themes and something similar to folders (my hacks are pretty old at this point) and it's equally snappy. There are definitely ways to poorly implement systems which do incur overhead (see apparently every modern UI; this is why I hack my phones), but there are also ways to do it well. Takoluka posted:I absolutely adore the bizarre history of Castle Shikigami in the West. I can't get over the fact that they machine translated a script and then dubbed it verbatim. CS3 actually had a decent dub, but the silly charm of "I like girls. But now, it's about justice" is lost, for better or for worse. That makes so much sense. From memory: "World Order's gonna set the world on fire!" Dugong posted:drat, just restarted Hollow Knight after attempting to play it a year ago and it feels so much better with an 8bitdo controller. Uh-oh. I have one of those controllers. And made the mistake of listening to a music-theory analysis of the soundtrack recently. Might have to replay some Hollow Knight.

Just got Ghosts 'n Goblins Remastered. Really love the art style... would kill for Capcom to spring for a Tomba remaster/sequel in a similar vein. I've heard it's really difficult like the old ones, that's what I like to hear.
