He's the former deputy leader of the Green Party, who decided that rallying a TERF army against the current incumbents was his path to power when the most recent leadership election rolled around. It failed miserably (he went from a close competitor for first place to finishing in a distant third), but it did secure him a place as King of the Shitheads in the party.

So he doesn't represent the policy of the party as a whole, but he's the present head of their vocal minority rear end in a top hat faction.

Who denied the referral? It’s as easy as clicking two boxes on the Prism system by your GP. I’ve never had any of my referrals returned or bounced back. The waiting list is ridiculous for people who should be getting help and support now.

It’s the same issue In some ways as to personality disorder services in my area. The waiting list is over a thousand people, and the wait time is three years for people who struggle with impulsivity and labile emotional states.

I do not send them to someone without qualifications or expertise in this area to get help though, as it can make things worse.

I know it’s not the answer you want, but I’m not defending the current system, I just think the alternative is not up to scratch either. The answer is obviously better funding and more clinical staff so we can reduce waiting times and get people what they need.

Need full blown space communism to get that it feels like though.

I think what usually happens is that if you're rich enough to be able to take a newspaper to court for libel in the first place, they'll meet you on the steps of the courthouse with a suitcase full of money. At which point most people choose the certain outcome of cash in hand rather than the uncertain outcome and astronomic cost of stepping into the courthouse.
Unfortunately for the Mail on Sunday, they've finally picked a fight with someone who is wealthier than their owner.

My mum has taken 10 days to tell us but told my sister this evening, the guy (son of the next door neighbour - he is over 50) who she pays to do her garden exposed his fully erect member to her when she made him a cup of tea. Then had the nerve to call round a week later to say can he still do her gardening.

She told someone in an organisation she belongs to and they treated it as a safeguarding issue (she is over 80 so 'vulnerable') and reported it to the local police who phoned her this afternoon when she was away from the phone so I hope they phone back as she didn't manage to get their phone number (somewhat hard of hearing though she denies it).
It could have been much worse if he'd raped her or attacked her - she lives in the countryside, there's no mobile phone signal for 3km radius, and if he cut the phone line she'd have no means of contacting anyone.

It's made her feel very vulnerable (until now she's been doing the 'I survived the blitz' thing.)

I've never met the guy but my sister has. "He seems like such a nice guy, friendly, interesting conversation, gentle, married". me: "it's a myth that sex offenders are gurning, bottle-glass specs, loner lech, many are 'happily married nice guys'"

Thing is - my sister and I have seen her maybe 4 times in the last 10 days (she turns up unannounced) and there was NOTHING in her demeanour to suggest anything wrong but now tonight you can tell how upset she is.

In my case it took two referrals from two different GP practices to even get the Leeds GIDS clinic to recognise that I had been referred and even then only just received confirmation that it has been accepted.

I had the first appointment where I told a doctor I was Trans the beginning of February last year, it took until August for me to get concerned that I had heard nothing and phone them up finding out they had no record of the referral, end of August beginning of September I got re-referred teh letter I received yesterday was dated the 4th of November.

The GIDS clinics do not need more money and more professionals teh entire system is emblematic of the institutional transphobia in the NHS and is 100% pure gatekeeping with no actual concern for patient welfare and not fit for purpose.

This is aside from NHS England forcing me to be misgendered on every GP record because they can't have no title and they can't use Ms. while the record is still male.

As for the Tories - frankly I think a lot of them do. Look at Rishi Sunak and tell me you couldn't imagine him in Starmer's shadow cabinet.

I think people do overstate the outright cynicism of the Labour right - while there are pure careerists I think most of them are true believers that New Labour was good and they are defending liberal capitalism from both a regressive left and callous small state Tories. The problem is their analysis is so flawed they haven't actually got an accurate view of the public, themselves, the left, or the Tories, and so are incapable of actually winning a public vote.

I read an interesting article about the lib dems being second in a lot of constituencies and how Labour will need to work together with them to get rid of the tories.

Prospect posted:

Labour now needs a swing of 1997 landslide proportions simply to become the largest party. To gain a majority of one it needs to add 123 MPs, which would mean increasing its parliamentary representation by 60 per cent—something that no major party has ever done in the post-war era. It must deliver these results in a context in which it has only one MP in Scotland, and any fight back there must start from third place, behind both the SNP and the Conservatives. Worse, Labour has to put a lot of energy into defence: 58 of its current seats being vulnerable to a small swing to the Tories. A Labour majority next time, then, may not be impossible but nor is it even remotely likely.
[...]
Back in 1997, by concentrating all fire on the Conservatives Blair and Ashdown quietly created a two-against-one frame for the election which helped Labour prevail in the most unlikely places and the Lib Dems to double their seats, as the Tories were reduced to a rump. Going much further back to 1903, Herbert Gladstone and Ramsay MacDonald quietly agreed that the Liberals and nascent Labour party would not impede each other in various seats, and helped paved the way for one of the greatest ever defeats of the Tories—and the dawn of a great reforming age—in 1906. The secrecy of that arrangement would be neither practical nor desirable today, but progressives of different stripes who are united in despair at the capricious chauvinism of the Johnson government should rekindle the same spirit.
