I mean, who cares? A dead body is like a piece of trash. I mean, shove as much poo poo in there as you want. Fill me up with cream, make a stew out of my rear end. What's the big deal? Bang me, eat me, grind me up into little pieces, throw me in the river. Who gives a poo poo? You're dead, you're dead.

I assume the rules around that are more about the surviving family finding it a bit disturbing when you repurpose their dead dad as a punch basin pedestal.

As little as 150 years ago, it was still popularly believed in this country that the exact body you had when you died would be the form that you took in the afterlife. When you've got a few thousand years of that view building up inertial in your culture it can be hard to just "edgy teen" your way out of it.

Burial practices in the modern era are about absolving the guilt over treating people like trash when they are alive.

Credit to FAA and flight attendants everywhere, pretty sure one of the top reasons you have flight attendants is to surface check the wings in icy conditions. So banking on several people with their life at stake not giving a gently caress. Given this thread there's worse odds than getting away with that I guess.

Carrying 400-600 pounds in one hand off the side of your body while everyone bumping the mass as they walk isn't easy, even distributed across 6 people and before putting stairs in the equation. But, yes, my aunt was overweight, though my uncle was a thin man. It hardly matters compared to a couple hundred pounds of casket. I still marvel that church didn't have a ramp or elevator. That was a stupid place to carry a casket up.
