Following the LTT stream I was reminded of a point raised by someone years ago regarding multiplayer games. The most fundamental rule of a multiplayer game is: Make it as easy as possible to play together with your friends. If you can accomplish that, even the very worst game can be kind of fun just by virtue of laughing at the jank and breaking the game. Time after time watching people try to play this game together ends in hours upon hours of wasted time. If CIG could at least get playing together working at a bare minimum it might elevate this game from literal trash fire to slightly amusing tire fire. It doesn't fix the problems with the whole wankpod/tram scenario in a spaceship game where spaceship jpegs are being sold, but it would at least be something. Goodness only knows the technical debt to actually get to that point though.

At this point, I think it's straight up immoral to not put in context the history of the project when featuring it. Hell, even skimming over CR's past performance in the gaming and movie industries is borderline. The man has fraudulent behaviour tracing back to the 90's ffs.

I mean, I don't think Linus is going to put out a video ripping on Star Citizen or anything but he's made fun of it numerous times in the past as joke lines in other videos, mostly about the cost of the ships. I can imagine it coming up in his next friday podcast episode.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8RWFhjzrLg You know, it's childish stuff like this that makes it hard not to have a knee-jerk reaction against other space-sim communities. Because it misrepresents the game, what is appealing about it and what is enjoyable about it today. It dismisses its strengths and the things its achieves, today, that no-one else does. Ship interiors, hierarchical physics grids, city planets, seamless character-centric design. I could go on, but that's not the most constructive thing either. There's simply no other game doing all these things at the same time, let alone to this level of execution, in multiplayer. That's not to say the game doesn't have flaws or problems, but the point is that it does have strengths and this video implies none of them exist. Point is, that video aims to misrepresent the game and paints a dishonest picture of it. The criticism about crashes is valid, but that too is a misrepresentation. It's way more stable today than it was a few patches ago, let alone in the 2.0 days. Besides, please don't tell me with a straight face that this video aims to be thoughtfully critical, not after that conclusion. That's also not really the guy's style.

Citizens are blaming Linus for "trolling" and not playing the game correctly. It's definitely not that Star Citizen is a boring broken mess that is unplayable for people who don't dump dozens of hours into it and learn how to somewhat avoid bugs.

"Linus ruined everyone's fun" says the Citizen commenters on the meticulously cut down video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2FJMErSDPw not playing it right! Right problem, wrong cause the servers cant handle the current players, so more players is only a good thing if you are under delusion that pitching an infinite amount of money into your space wishing well will conjure your dreams

Sarsapariller posted:I guess we'll see on the gentleness, but I kind of get why the few remaining reviewers who don't treat it as a complete joke don't vocally hate on the game as much as this thread. Most people see a thing that is bad and they go "Wow, that is bad," and they stay the gently caress away from it. That's not a reviewer's job though- their job is to tell the people who follow them what their impressions of a thing are, and let those people decide whether or not it is bad for themselves. An accurate and neutral description of Star Citizen does not need to include bile, and in fact being super angry is more likely to turn people off than anything. But it is imperative to a true accounting tell people that the project is broken, and it isn't going to be fixed, and it costs a shitload of money up front. That is something I would expect to see in a neutral review, and I hope LTT will deliver. The stream was revealing enough on its own, but a follow-up would be excellent. AFAIK game reviews aren't even really his deal so I wouldn't expect him to make a big commentary on it. He probably just played it some because he owns a ship because long ago he got conned, and now once in awhile he hops in a stream to play because that's how you maintain your fanbase. His trolling the group literally the entire time and crashing the ship and shooting his teammates shows how much he cares about SC. MedicineHut posted:I jumped towards the end to see the wrap up discussion following the 30K. It would seem Linus is going to do a video review of some kind. The way he was sumarizing his experience in the session I would be very surprised if he comes up with any serious criticism to the game at all. He has also spent 3+ hours with Morphologist and the rest of the stream participants where, despite the junk, they seemed to have shared some kind of "intimate moment". Very much doubt anything over a mild critique commes out out of all this. Ah, or I could be wrong. I got drunk and fell asleep right before this part. The stream was intensely boring for 3 hours.

I can’t tell y’all how happy I was to see that part of the stream. I didn’t watch much else, can only imagine how much worse it got from the posts. How can anyone take this pile of poo poo seriously. also I don’t do the whole watch other people play video games thing but do all streamers lack self respect to the point where they embarrass themselves like this?

My introduction to this whole mess was many moons ago, when Corberts hosted the Christmas stream. It was such a magnificent trainwreck that I am utterly convinced that if SC had had a bigger and wider appeal to the gaming community at large, instead of what is after all a niche market, it would’ve crashed then and there. If Cyberpunk 2077 had marketing that looked like the worst streaming of Croberts and his handlers, the hype would’ve died in the cradle. I realize it’s not kosher to touch the poop, and I’m not saying anyone here should, but I really hope the true believers start chanting for Chris himself to host another stream, to silence the naysayers. Shout it to the skies! Make it impossible for him to ignore!

To me it's like watching a bunch of good mates on a road trip getting a flat tyre, everything about the situation sucks but it can still be fun/funny with good company.
