Wearing long sleeves does not in fact extend the "shoulder/sleeve" area. It was a good try though.

A freeze frame from one angle does not show where it actually hit him. On the angle straight on with the ball’s path, you can see it hit the sleeve of his actual jersey and his shoulder, and not the long sleeve undershirt.
