Mämmilä (April 21, 1990) "Tupolev youth association" is a reference to a group of labour market bigwigs who sent a French pornographic postcard to Marianne Laxén, a researcher for the advisory board on social equality. The card depicted a naked woman using her bra as a parachute landing on a field of erect penises, with the text "Vive les hommes". In the back was written "Wage differences must be removed, focus on relevant matters", signed "Tupolev brothers' foundation" followed by the men's real names. The affair blew up when Laxén brought up the card in public and there was even an address demanding resignation of the signatories. In the end no resignations happened, only one of the men apologized publicly and Laxén herself, partially because of the scandal (guess where much of the comments were directed), left the country to work abroad.

Enough about you almost being murdered. We have to go comfort Bernice now. Okay, so I was wrong in expecting that Tara would have non-life-threatening dramatic injuries, but I can already see that I was absolutely right that Bernice would find a way to make Tara getting run over by her cousin all about Bernice. (I'm expecting something along the lines of, "I thought the worst of you and then you almost died to help the Fuse and now I feel so guilty!") Yeah, it doesn't exactly take Nostradamus to predict this kind of behavior, but still.

Surgeon's Tales The comic skipped all of Spolin's appearances, so I probably have to summarize, what actually happened. More details tomorrow. The original term for his obsolete profession was fiskal/viskaali. "Fiscal" seemed like a good enough translation, since it's has at least some use in English. Nancy Dustin Mandrake I don't think that's true.
