Is there some editorialising in that article doubting the victim that you haven't posted? I've only kept half an eye on Twitter today but a lot of people seem furious at the Australian. Unless that's just for publishing her private account in the first place?

People are extra furious because PVO is Porter's friend and more than happy to join in with publishing selected extracts from the private diary in an attempt to sway public opinion.

The piece ends with this, so it's clearly trying to use those diary entries to suggest that Kate invented the story

The question readers might now want to ask themselves is does Kate’s dossier raise doubts about what has been alleged against Porter?

I've done my civic duty and voted, grabbed lunch from the democracy sausage sizzle and followed that up with a democracy cake.

Due to health stuff, this is the first time in ~8 years I've not signed up to be spruiking the Greens at a booth for an election. It's hard not to feel like I've let the team down, but I did visit a friend on a booth and hand out how to votes while he went around and hung up signs in Wembley, and I also participated in some some doorknocking/campaigning in the lead up to today. Those things are important, even if my brain spiders took over at the pointy end of the campaign.

If you're against the two major parties slide to the right and want action on climate change, you should consider joining, volunteering or donating. The Greens don't take corporate donations, and they need all the help they can get.

Doing stuff for the Greens is work, but most of the time it's not particularly arduous, and it's worth doing. It's likely to be a Labor landslide today, but putting yourself out there is important.

You did amazing this election, froglet. Even after you had to step back from volunteering, you still did a few phone banks and brought friends along to help, which was more than we could have ever asked from you. You were an essential core part of the team and we could not have done what we did without you!

WA libs ruined all credibility with the barnett government. They lose the last election by a lot, in opposition they have done nothing (especially with the almost constant reveal of liberal graft/corruption in previous governments that trashed the budget).

They had no strong leadership in opposition, lisa harvey was picked after the last election (previously the wa police minister) despite being barely known and widely hated. She resigned like months before the election and they picked Zak as the new leader, he's young and politically naive.

Mark Mcgowan's response to the pandemic has widely been seen as nothing short of heroic (especially in the face of the federal government doing nothing), his popularity is something insane like 80% approval. All the polling has shown this would be a landslide victory not helped by Zak conceding the election weeks ago, the liberal's campaign has been "don't let labor have complete control of parliament" with little to no other content.

edit: lisa harvey also looking very likely to have lost her seat.

78% of the population of the state is in perth, country seats used to be only half the number of votes as urban seats until 2005/2008.

For many years, Western Australia used a zonal electoral system for both houses of parliament. In most Australian jurisdictions, each state electorate represents an approximately equal number of voters. However, in Western Australia, until 2008 an MP represented 28,519 voters in greater Perth (the Metropolitan Region Scheme area) or 14,551 country voters.[1] At the 2006 census taken on 8 August 2006, 73.76% of Western Australia's residents lived in and around Perth,[2] but only 34 of Western Australia's 57 Legislative Assembly seats, representing 60% of the total, were located in the metropolitan region. There has been strong support over time in some quarters for the principle of one vote, one value, particularly from the Labor Party who were at particular disadvantage under the system. Up until 2005, reform had proceeded gradually—the most dramatic changes had occurred with the enactment of the Electoral Districts Act 1947 and the Acts Amendment (Electoral Reform) Act 1987, the latter of which raised the number of metropolitan seats from 29 to 34.[3]

Effective on 20 May 2005, the Electoral Amendment and Repeal Act 2005 (No.1 of 2005) abolished the country-metropolitan distinction for the Legislative Assembly, but all seats then in place remained until the following election on 6 September 2008. A redistribution of seats announced by the Western Australian Electoral Commission on 29 October 2007 places 42 seats in Perth and 17 in the country, with a variation of ±10% from the average population normally permitted. The only distinction for rural seats is that any seat with an area of 100,000 square kilometres (38,610 sq mi) or greater (that is, 4% of the State's land area) may have a variation of +10%–20% from the average, using an adjusted population based on the seat's area in square kilometres.[4]

Peter Katsambanis, my local member, looks to have been turfed out. You have no idea just how strong this swing is for that to happen. He's been dug in like a tick for a long time. Was funny to see the younger lib staffers handing out HTV's. I was so tempted to say "Early night for you tonight I'm guessing?"

Also, asked for a postal vote, because of my health problems, and only got it yesterday. Just easier to go to the poll and hand it in there than dick around trying to find someone to sign the declaration for me around my place. Did it at the voting place. It was cleared out by 2:30pm.

Holy poo poo, the new map... Nats going to be bigger than the Libs. Just one Lib seat in all of Perth thus far. HAHAHAHAHAH YES!

I haven't lived there in ten years but judging from what my family and friends say, even though the Libs weren't polling well pre-COVID, you basically can't compete against McGowan's pandemic response. WA is not just a geographically but a mentally isolated place, even though it's now prosperous enough that pretty much everyone has travelled interstate and overseas, so people were 100% primed to think "yeah, gently caress, pull the drawbridge up, we don't want that poo poo." And yeah, people have family overseas and interstate, but I'm one of those people and my attitude is "good on McGowan for keeping my family safe even if it means I can't see them this year." They locked down early and didn't even have to shut down the pubs and restaurants like the rest of us did in March and April. I think if the shoe had been on the other foot and a Liberal leader had been in charge and enacted the same policies, we'd be seeing the same landslide in their direction.

Basically it has nothing to do with broader policies and 100% to do with the fact that WA lived life with a freedom that even Taiwan and New Zealand can't boast. Happy to be corrected by WAers if I'm wrong, but that's the impression I get from everyone back home.

We barely felt any of the COVID poo poo unlike eastern states.

We've been as normal almost all of the time. We only had mandatory masks for a single week last month.

And we all saw and aknowleged the attacks from the Liberals and their mate Palmer to change that. This was a big thing.

Broader policies? I'm not sure anyone cared. We generally kept working, getting paid, going out and having lives. Emotion and normalcy trumped policy.

Oh and I forgot that Liza Harvey announced, unilaterally, to her party room, that she wanted to go against the hugely popular closed border, which apparently left them aghast. Lol.

Also while I've been sitting here the ABC has had four seats "in doubt" and three of them have now ticked over to Labor. Nationals will now have more seats than the Libs - and the WA Nats are separate from the federal Nats, and have not formed a coalition with the WA Liberals for a few cycles now. So the Libs won't just be a junior coalition partner, they'll be an actual minor party.
