It's because you can't trust Blanka players, the monsters they are.

What really turned me off of the dude is that ironically enough, he debates exactly like a lot of fundamentalist religious folks: it's never a discussion, it's him passive-aggressively casting himself as the victim and trying to talk himself around to being right regardless of the facts. Combined with his utter inability to understand anything if he's already formed an opinion, it makes it very difficult to take any of his bullshit seriously.

In a way that's why I like pat: he's a crazy loving rear end in a top hat, but he knows it. Heck, that stock thing is a perfect example: Pat went "I know this is a hot take, and I don't expect anyone to agree with me or follow my reasoning, but I don't like stocks because It makes me feel like I can only make money by cheating someone else out of theirs," and Woolie somehow thought Pat was arguing for a complete withdrawal from society. Like, why the gently caress is he even bothering to have conversations when there is literally no point in saying anything to him that isn't "I agree Woolie, you are smart and correct in this and all other things"?

You could've just pointed to the time when Woolie talked about the universal truth gun and never mentioned it pointing it back at himself.

Woolie finished up Batman today on stream, he seemed to end on about the impression most people would going back to play it. Hopefully he'll continue forward to City eventually since it improves upon most of the things he had issue with. Including all the Bane :v:

As much as people griped about parts of it, I still love Arkham Origins too, multiple villains I really like getting to mug it up in the same game was cool. Also I enjoy the challenge mode stuff in general and Deathstroke is a big fav, so that ruled.

The only one that's outright just not really worth playing is Arkham Knight. The rest at least have enough cool moments it's worth seeing the main story.

Eh, I reckon Knight's still worth it. The car's a drag, but the fighting and stealthing feel so good, straight up the best in the series.

You can play a lot more of Knight than you think without the Battank, which is more fun, but yeah them going so hard on it at points is lame.

Also Origins is the only game in the series during the PS3/360 era with good character designs. Watching the LP has reminded me of how ugly Rocksteady's characters were during this time

It's a real wake-up moment that all these scam investments really managed to find a way to just be way worse than what gave the US its recession one or two recessions ago. Just take away the core concept of "there is something with use and value involved"

The Arkham games are in an interesting situation. I think when Liam said YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED DEATH NOTE?? it was still crucial to play them, but by now... we got a few 3D Metroidvanias, and tons of indie 2D ones. The combat has been thoroughly improved upon in other games, and action games in general have way options now. And then the open world stuff that comes later, it'd be like in the first two chapters of a huge book about how Open World Impacted Videogames.

Unless I missed the double jump upgrade somewhere souls games don't have you find new abilities which unlock new areas for progression which is like the main defining hallmark of metroidvanias

I do need to play control though

Arkham games are in that space where the open world is supposed to exist to let you use the fun stealth and combat mechanics, but they went too hard into the open world aspect to create a hard-to-navigate and over-ambitious nightmare in having to traverse Arkham Knight's overworld. I can't really stand playing actual Arkham campaigns, but I will dig into the optional combat trials any day of the week.

I wouldn't really call Souls a Metroidvania, but Souls 1 in particular's interconnected world design certainly harkens back. I definitely had a step-back moment when I realized how much I appreciated how it all comes together.

"Shortcut porn" is maybe a shared element of the two.

Overlord K

I enjoyed every Arkham game as they came out, but I definitely think a large part of that was taking my time and exploring each one. City is definitely my favorite of the batch for sure, but I honestly barely remember Origins. It'd be fun to go back to replay them all someday but there are some annoying hurdles for that. :smith:

Weirdly I've never once compared Souls to metroidvania or zelda though, they've just always kind of been their own beast to me.

I've been meaning to get to Control since it was free on PS+, but I've been kind of in the mood to play games where I can veg out and listen to podcasts with.

Also, I will say how much it bums me out that we'll never see a Castlevania take on the Souls formula
