Yeah a lot of people get contacted by their GP. As far as I understand if you book it through the website you get both appointments up front, if it's via your GP they will reach out to you for the second appointment. No idea how it gets decided who goes via their GP vs the website though.

Yeh Carers/NHS staff are being contacted by the NHS by a letter/text and we book via the NHS website and it give you the option of one of the big stadium centres, you have to book both at the same time. Everyone else is contacted by the doctor and they get the additional option of a more local centre. It depends entirely on your own doctor’s booking system and if they let you book both at once or not.

From younger people I know who have 'health issues', GP contacted them via text or phone. Those of us without other health issues are getting a letter when our tranche is being called in. (Wales again). No booking via a website. That's England only. If you can't make the appointment in the letter, you are supposed to phone them to change it.

My local hospital has a link where you can book last minute appointments (has for today, tomorrow, Friday.). Seems to be cancellations to not have the vaccine get wasted. I had a look and got one booked for after school tomorrow. I'm in my 30s and no underlying conditions. About an hour ago I could have got one tonight. Now there's one available tomorrow at 9:40

I'm in my late 30s, with no health issues. I'm not exactly holding my breath waiting for a vaccine appointment, but there have been a few anomalies amongst my acquaintances. My parents (66 and 62) and my sister (mid 30s, NHS employee) have been vaccinated as expected, but so has my sister in-law in her early 30s. She had gestational diabetes a few years ago and has had no health problems since, but this was apparently enough to get her onto the clinically vulnerable list. My boss had his a couple of weeks ago, despite being in his late 40s and not having visited a doctor in the last 15 years. He says the appointment letter just arrived, and is mystified as to why. His younger brother, (mid 40s, health issues) has also had it. My other colleague (late 20s, several health conditions including a blood pressure so high that nurses wear bomb disposal gear to take blood samples) hasn't. There seems to be quite a bit of random chance involved in the process.

Tell “My other colleague (late 20s, several health conditions including a blood pressure so high that nurses wear bomb disposal gear to take blood samples) hasn't” to call his doctors and their admin will have a daily list that gets sent though of people who may have been missed. What they are doing is vaccinating the vulnerable people in age group order which is why I, the carer, got done before the actually vulnerable young person.

My niece - 28, bazillions of health issues, was done ages ago. My brother in law 67 but no health issues was done about 5 weeks ago I think. I think Wales (well Aneurin Bevan Health Board anyway) may have done all the 'health issues' first before getting to the rest of us.

We doing vaccine chat? I got a letter in the post from NHS Scotland last week telling me to come get my vaccination on Saturday at a vaccination centre in town. I'm in Edinburgh in my late 30s and have an endocrine condition which I presume bumps me up on the priority list.

Back in January when it snowed, a lot of the elderly cancelled their appointments at the vaccination centre next door to my workplace. Everyone who was in the office that day got vaccinated rather than let them go to waste, and they'll all get jab #2 before Easter. They're the only people I know of who have been vaccinated ahead of schedule. I'm not getting my hopes up that I'll get my first vaccine before July, regardless of what the government promises. The supply issues will only continue so they'll have to keep stop-starting through summer.

I still haven't had it despite having been hospitalised with asthma before and taking the brown inhaler daily. My old GP is awful so I'm trying to register with the surgery within walking distance in the town we moved to, hoping that they'll look at my notes and stab me up good.

Ethically I'm certainly not high risk, but cancelled appointments with <24 hour notice aren't going to all get filled so it seems reasonable to me. Will see why they say when I go tomorrow.

Ethically speaking I don't think there's an issue - anyone booking their own appointments now through that kind of system will have no more need for the vaccine than you, so it's a hell of a lot better if you have it than if it went to waste.

Would you all like to know a secret? The 5 min appointment system is only in place to stop everyone all turning up at 9am. You can in fact turn up at 9am with an appointment made for 3:30pm and official policy is not to care and to just ask for the booking time so they can check you off and get you jabbed. So book the day you want and ignore the time.

Turning up at 9 is a bit much sure, but generally turning up within the scope of your appointment +/- 30 is fine. They just don't want a superspreader event of 500 people shoulder to shoulder at 8:45

No, not really, if you are allowed the jab then you should get it as fast as possible, I didn’t know about this until the day and it turns out I waited 3 days longer than I needed to because they only had afternoon slots till the Friday, and am in a “pod” with 300 immunocompromised kiddies.

I suppose also whose to say you don't get a particularly by the book receptionist or whatever that tells you to bugger off for 6 hours. Also getting the jab should absolutely trump whatever work commitments. But fine. I'm particularly narked about vaccinations so I'm probably just being a bit huffy. I would expect policy to change when they’ve stopped doing the old and vulnerable, but right now it’s been common sense with people at the end of lines making sure people in wheelchairs and with sticks get escorted straight in and so on. What they absolutely do not want to do is have some old dear join the huge lines and then freak out and wander off thinking she has missed her appointment.

When the country reopens, it'll be the under-50s doing most of the mixing, so don't underestimate how important pockets of younger vaccinated people will be to reduce mutations and protect the minority of vulnerable that the vaccine didn't work in.
