Hinamatsuri taught me that the Yakuza aren't good at parenting psychic girls from the future but also aren't completely terrible at it, all things considered.

The title is about Jobless Reincarnation, but it's actually a neat article about the history of isekai and "Narou" fiction in general.

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/feature/2021-03-19/mushoku-tensei-is-not-the-pioneer-of-isekai-web-novels-but/.170429

Long and short: the fanfic-y qualities of isekai and similar WN premise trends comes directly from fanfiction, particularly Zero no Tsukaima fanfiction, and it proliferated so hard due to a combination of Narou banning fanfic in 2012 and the demonstrated success of WN authors like Reki with Accel World. MT's author has talked about how he was drawn to Narou following failure to publish through traditional channels, and like many fanfics and other isekai, it's a result of a write-as-you-go process, drawing on reader reactions and other writers (apparently he straight up told rezero's author that it inspired a climax in MT).

Just like Miwa's saying here, it might seem like it could potentially hurt 'em in the long run.

At least with a lot of manga there's fan TLs out there so that you can tell if something is way off or outright cut, but for novels and more niche stuff that's a real problem. I saw a friend put it well in that with a localization company, trustworthiness is almost the entire product all by itself.

Article about isekai that doesn't mention alice in wonderland, shameful.

e: the fact that the Musoku Tensei guy was inspired by rance explains a lot, now I feel less bad about immediately judging anyone who likes it.

even though this season will leave a massive, 10-anime shaped hole in my heart, i'm looking forward to finally starting Higurashi Gou. i watched the original and Kai back-to-back, and had to take a break after 48 episodes and Kai's conclusive-ish ending.
i've read literally nothing about Gou, i'll be going in blind. all i know about it is that it's a remake (sort of??) but also the art style is supposed to be super different??

It might be because I watched all of the original this past summer but I got really bored of it halfway through because so much of it was just retreading old ground with not nearly as much new material as I was expecting. I'm just waiting for the second half to come out and finish so I can watch it all in one go, because watching it from week to week was tedious when every episode in each arc felt the same as the original except for the last one or two.

Artstyle is Akio Watanabe's design this time, so it'll look similiar to the *Monogatari series.

Katanagatari is legit one of the best things Nisio has done and the anime really amplifies that. The Forgetful Detective / Kyoko Okitegami series is also pretty good. The Dorama was only so-so, though.

Maybe they did it cause they wanted more of typical all knowing/all powerful Isekai lead and not one who's clearly working through issues herself (which the manga adaptation does show more off)?

if we apply the logical reasoning method known as Flipping the Chessboard then we can theorize they knew all along and played this gambit to increase visibility
