Does Starmer do that thing with his face on purpose like that power stance thing? Maybe there's something he's aiming for and missing.

There's been an ongoing dispute between Rumda & Continuity NIP itt about exactly what happened, iirc it's something like: somebody used an NIP social media account to tweet something about no platforming; some senior person said they don't agree with no platforming; an argument ensued; people don't seem to agree on whether the argument was about no platforming, or making social media statements on things that aren't agreed policy; nonspecific Discord drama happened.

I'd also like to know the actual details tbh.

so I've come to the conclusion in the past week that I probably have ADHD and it explains a lot of the poo poo that I've been experiencing throughout my adult life so far, and I think someone upthread posted a list of ADHD symptoms, so thanks for that b/c it's really fuckin useful at clarifying these things

that said, I really really really loving wish I'd known ten years ago b/c I've been going through most of my 20s with no clue as to why my brain is so loving shite

Neutrality is a position, not a lack of one... :words:

This is a good post, and while I agree with you in theory I'm not sure how much that maps to the wider electorate. Or at least, even if most people see neutrality as a position in itself (which is a fair point) that's no guarantee that they'll agree with it. If you want another IndyRef you vote for the IndyRef party, if you don't want IndyRef you vote for the non-IndyRef party, so even if they accept neutrality as a reasonable position it's still not the position they identify with or would vote for, and it's this identity that is the main theme of Scottish politics imo. I'd like to be wrong on this - and as I said, I'm not sure Labour has a whole lot to lose by trying - but given how embedded pro/anti Independence identity is now as the focus of Scottish politics I think something more would need to shift than just emphasising neutrality

I know Rumda can be Rumda but please can I gently and with love remind the cishets not use one trans woman as an example please?

I’m not saying this is the case here because I don’t know the person, but remember the black guys who joined the BNP to fit in? Yah, there are people within the LGBT+ community today who are “absolute loving scabs” You got your openly TERF “I want to fit iiiiin” arseholes like Hayden, and then you got “true scum” gate keepers and DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA.

So yeh it’s a minefield, you just got to talk to more than one individual or group of people within the community to find out the real story.

Also personally the part that is offputting to me is the notion that the party can and will just reorganize itself at will to suit the people in charge of it. Which I don't really think has been addressed or even refuted, and the claims of "well we're a good party" doesn't really inspire confidence because that's what all the little tinpot cult of personality parties say to justify the lovely behaviour of their leaderships.

quote:

On Friday as the police and the vigil’s organisers were heading to court over the legality of such an event, a message was sent to all police chiefs making Patel’s position clear. She wanted them to stop people gathering at vigils. She also promised she would personally urge people not to gather – but she never did.

Though the police are operationally independent, the home secretary had made her views clear, which made her criticisms of the way officers broke up the Clapham event particularly galling, according to some police chiefs who spoke to the Guardian.

As a result, some chiefs feel policing was “hung out to dry” when Patel criticised pictures of officers manhandling women at the vigil, rebuked the Met commissioner and ordered an inquiry.

One chief constable said the message from Patel and the government before the vigil had been clear, that a ban on gatherings had to be enforced.

Tensions are now running high between police and ministers. A government source hit back at any complaints from within policing, saying that “pinning women to the floor and dragging them away from Clapham Common bandstand was an independent operational decision” made by the police themselves.

even beside the party leadership just constantly keeping discussion within its own in group, wouldn't you think it would be a safe bet as a explicitly socialist party to say you are against fascism and will not offer it a platform, especially after an ill advised post seemingly denying any fascism or racism in the north.

The police will never move against the state but the unhappier they are with the individuals in charge and the less cover they get from the state the better. It means the street cops are more likely to use their discretion to not go hard after things they consider part of a government's strategy which does nothing for them.

Paul Williams has faced criticism after an historic tweet emerged in which he used the word "Milf", a vulgar term used about women. The former MP, who represented Stockton South from 2017 to 2019, was selected as the party's candidate on Thursday.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said the term was not acceptable.
