Also the yaglith fight is weird. Frostner absolutely clowns him, but it seems like there's nothing you can do against his attacks except run around and maybe just roll the blue aoe? So you just have to facetank him with good food (sea serpent stew)

Fire potion makes his blue fire basically harmless, we used that phase of his attack as our time to just charge him and whack away. During the other phases there wasn't a good window to run in, attack, and both get out. This was the only fight where we died at all, but once we learned his telegraphs it was more just a matter of running around but preserving stamina for the rush-in phase.

How long was your fight? I guess this also might have been the wrong strategy, but I just slugged it out with him face to face and it was under 3 minutes total. I popped my heal and stamina potions about a minute in, but they didn't refresh by the time I went down. The final corpse run assault was like 10-15 seconds.

It took ages for us because we went in unspoiled and didn't bring the "correct" weapons (he's weak to blunt but has insane resist to pierce and slash). Probably 10 or 15 minutes.

Frankly the bosses shouldn't be resistant to any weapons, because if you're spoiled they're easy and you can facetank, and if you aren't you can just hit a brick wall and not know what to do

We rolled fire pots for the yaglith fight because the game gave us mats to make them and flashed "new recipe" and we hadn't needed it yet. So the assumption was the boss had fire. We were right!

It took us a long time with bows and porcupines to kill him though. Would going back to an iron mace be better?

:geno: Yes, it's like a lava lamp.

I think he's resistant to blunt damage, my Porcupine was hitting with grey numbers. Sword on the other hand damaged him just fine. We also assumed that's what the fire pots had to be for, took us all of three minutes to down him. I didn't even back up at any point, the resistance meant he did basically no damage. At one point I got down to one third health so I drank a health potion and went back to slicing.

People will just use a bow and wooden arrows for everything though. So far in this thread we've heard from people macing up Bonemass, building towers and ranging with wooden arrows, using frost arrows or flattening the area into an arena and having a slow drawn out fight with sub optimal weapons.

Maybe the game could do a better job teaching you about monster resistances because for the most part you can ignore them, but I don't want them to go away.

Spirit damage from frostner obliterates him

If that's the case you should use a Silver Sword instead, it's better in every capacity for that fight

I've got 103 hours in this game and am still being surprised. I made my way to the mountains finally. There's fuckin drakes and a giant rock person? Wild. I found a big stone tower jutting out the side of the mountain and it's my house now. Also I got silver and there's so many new things to craft!

What'd the deal with mods and multiplayer servers? Like, can I use that snap-cycle mod if no one else is using mods?

I'm about to undertake the beginnings of building my (hopefully) Japanese-Viking fusion home base and wanna do it right :getin:

Seems like the next big fix needs to be that heightmap mod that fixes terrain changes, or somehow 'saves' changes made within the last day cycle. I'm unfortunately in that mode where I still really wanna play this, but I'm utterly bored playing solo.

Most mods seem to work locally. I've been using a few mods that aren't on my server and that my buddies aren't using, and haven't hit any brick walls yet.

I play on an unmodified dedicated server with my brother who also uses no mods. So far I have:

- Unrestricted portals
- Equipment slots
- Tree replanting
- Additional crops
- Build camera
- Remember IP
- Clock
- Recycling

All whilst he's playing the base game alongside me with no problems.

No good deed goes unpunished

I spent all day taming a basic no star wolf, then figured it was tamed because it wasn't attacking the walls. Jumped in. Died instantly.

Got another one. While waiting, I figured I could probably get another one in the pen.The second wolf killed me. The first one got out.

I tracked down another, and this time figured I better tame one a time. Finally tamed the damned thing and brought it all the way from the outpost to home. I somehow talked myself into doing it again to have a breeding pair. Definitely my crowning moment of achievement in the game so far.

A few days later, there was a a troll invasion. By the time I arrived, they were both gone. I logged out as quickly as I could, but it was too late.

I just took a breath and decided to get two more. This time, I made 2 pens side by side so I could tame both at once.

I hate this dumb game, but I also love it.

FrickenMoron

Good game!
Don't make pens for taming, make a deep pit with steep walls a monster cant climb. Parry the wolf next to the pit and push it into the pit. Grab a second one and repeat, now drop 20 raw meat into the pit. Set up a campfire a bit away from the pit and you can just chill and wait for a day and half.

Khanstant

I don't like earthen pits because of how they look and how they don't really stop monsters, since when at the edge of loading or whatever they can spawn in or pop up on the high dirt wall. I just built a low pen out of the shorter stone bricks. They bit at em for a while but I only repaired them once and probably would've been fight not. I just threw in some old meat and watched a TV show while they tamed. I hopped in a couple times, they bit me, but I could take a bite or two with my gear. The hard part was getting them to the homebase, harpooning them along is easy enough, you can dodge their every attack easily. The hard part is they will also attack everything else along the way. Lost my first wolf a few feet from the pen because some greyling threw a rock.

My main advice is, however you build the pen or pit, make sure it's far from your primary castle. Those dogs howl and howl and howl. Like Deer, but worse.

When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.

Just bought this game. There's going to be about 7-8 of us playing together tonight from a few different locations in the US. Will we have a better experience if we get a dedicated server or will it run ok with one of us hosting on a high-end compy with a good wired connection?

If you are going to have people wanting to log on at different times going forward, you'll want a dedicated server purely from a practical standpoint. If you are only going to play in big co-op sessions you can have someone host.

I don't think there's a noticeable difference in performance between a dedicated server and a player hosted one.

I snuck up into the mountains and tamed a wolf while I was still doing the swamp. Literally the same night I had a troll invasion that smashed his pen and him along with it :sigh:

Of course I want more and I want this game to be better. But even if this game was abandoned right now I absolutely got my $20 worth. As soon as they finish up some of the lesser known biomes they could probably just squash a few more bugs and push this game out of early access.

Don't forget the publisher cut either. Safe bet that they're only seeing half that, maybe less. Of course half of 120m for 6 people is still a pretty okay payday, lol

I saw an interesting post from the Among Us dev team, who are in a similar situation, about why they've been sitting at five despite Among Us's success. One is just that keeping a team small means you've got the dream team motherfuckers whom you want to work with the best, another is that every moment the programmer spends trying to hire someone else means lost coding time. I still think it'd be best for tiny teams to expand a little, but then again, so long as they keep truckin' and making the good stuff I don't care how long it takes.

Don't forget they live in an evil socialist society! Pretty sure all that money rockets them to the maximum tax rate in Sweden so like 55% of is going to the gubmint.

(they still get a mountain of cash and could easily retire right now and never work again)
