Is there a list or database somewhere of the depth at which creatures start appearing? Searching for a Unicorn Thundercracker at realm level 72, and haven't found a single one for five realm levels. Also, is 75+ the last "tier"? And if it isn't, what realm level do new creatures stop appearing?

I haven't seen a list that shows realm depth for all creatures.

I believe that it's a new creature for each race every 15 levels until all creatures have unlocked for that race. Based on the number of unicorns I think there will be a new unlock at 75 and at 90. If you've been chaining realms that spawn unicorns at instability 0, then I assume it must be opened up at one of those realm depths.

The final unlock for all naturally occurring creatures is after depth 100; I seem to recall it being around depth 120.

No, but I'm sure it would be fine to talk about that game here as well.

Yesterday I said to heck with my Reaver, I'm going back to my Hell Knight and while the class concept of "punch mans" is much less interesting, there's no denying it feels 100x more effective.

I've got:
-100% Crit chance
-Splash hits all enemies
-Always have Splash and Savage
-Immune to Scorn

Then I've got 3 dudes in my party with Infernal Charge, which makes Target Ally attack a random enemy for 200% damage. They're configured to cast this on one creature who has a 75% chance to Attack again after Critting... So with 100% crit chance he just goes offfff.

Basically the only thing that stops me is enemy traits that give my whole team Cursed lol. Also having a party of 4 Chaos types does potentially hamper me when I face a boss that's like all Death Dudes or whatever but

I was thinking of fusing a Mimic with whatever just so I always go first and can Infernal Charge my boy before the enemy gets a turn, but I can't figure out who I want to drop from my party.

Hell Knight, despite what it looks like, isn't just punch man though. It's just one of the best ways to get Attack triggers to activate due to the innate bonuses such as double attack and immunity to dodge/scorn.

You're only cooking when gas when your dudes not just attack, but also pull in the rest of the team to attack as well when they crit (which is always), and then also trigger various assorted spell casts on attacks (Examples: Volatile Wolpertinger: Casts the Scourge spell that the target is weak to after an attack or the Unicorn Firewalker which has a 50% chance to cast Volcano, a powerful aoe spell, after each hit). Or stat buffs that work on attacks, such as the Pulse Bat, or that one Leech that gives you 10% stat increase after each attack...

There is a reason why one of the Perks lets you add 25% attack to int.

Yeah, the On Attack or On Crit effects are basically the Hell Knight's bread and butter. Attacking is just the vector by which you apply them, although the attacks themselves can also be pretty effective. You actually kind of don't want to rely on just attacks to do your damage for you, because of the "maximum of 15 actions per turn" and "can take damage at most 20 times per turn" mechanics. Sure, it's more than enough for most things up to the higher reaches of the postgame, but it's still the worst way to use them.

That all sounds like some interesting ideas. I'm only somewhere around floor 45-50, I forget where I left off, so I'm not very far into the game.

In fact when I loaded it up, I was surprised to find out that like 5/6 of my party had no spell gems equipped at all haha. Clearly I hadn't put any thought into that when I was playing it in alpha early access :v: I'll see what I can equip and add Chance to Cast on Attack mods to everything :getin:

when a spell is cast via a trigger, does it consume a Charge?

I'm not 100% but I believe so. I was surprised to find that the Tribalist perk that auto-casts a Morph spell at the beginning of a battle actually uses a charge, for example. I was very confused when that morph spell only triggered sometimes until I figured that one out.

Also, I've honestly left the spells lying around for very long time too. I feel like they're only starting to get useful once you go into the "midgame", so to say.

There are perks that make it so only the first cast of a spell during a given turn uses a charge, so yeah, under normal circumstances, each cast costs one charge even if it's not a manual cast.

There are a lot of ways to get your monsters to not consume charges at all, too. Usually tied to some sort of gimmick, but just off the top of my head there's a few easy ones.

Can't name them because I haven't paid that close attention to em, but they definitely exist.

Animator is ridiculous. EVERY aspect of your team upgrades your animus in some way. I've got all the perks unlocked so my Animus

Starts with 5 random buffs
Is resistant to debuffs (so can attack/cast through scorn/silence, wakes up automatically, breaks freeze/snare easily)
Fuses with my second monster automatically
Gains 50% of the stats of my third monster
Gets copies of my fourth monster's spell gems
Gets the trait of my fifth monster
Splits damage taken with my sixth monster
Resurrects with 100% hp the first time it dies, keeping all buffs and minions
Always has Animated Weapon and Animated Gem
Gets 50% of the stats of any ally that dies, any time they die
Gains a copy of any buff my other monsters gain

And the big one:
Casts Corpse Explosion (an AoE death spell), each time an enemy dies, once per dead enemy when it triggers. The real magic comes because I have:
Lich Shadowcaster: Your creatures cast death spell as if they had 100% more intelligence
Corpse Leper: When an enemy dies, this creature casts Corpse Explosion a number of times equal to the amount of debuffs it had before it died (this is slot 5 so Animus gains this trait)
Artifact with Pandemonium Fever (At the beginning of combat the creature casts Affliction, putting a random debuff on every enemy)
Terra Vulpes: The first 3 non-ethereal spell gems on each of your creatures have a 15% chance to cast at the beginning of combat. At least 3 of my creatures have spells strong enough to knock out one opponent so that's about a 77% chance to end every fight before anyone takes a turn.

The second any enemy dies, it's just endless corpse explosions. Every once in a while some random combination of enemy traits will like, reflect a ton of damage and then revive an enemy, but they have to kill the Animus a second time for it to wipe me (which happens rarely), but I have yet to fight a boss that didn't melt once the whole combo was up and running.

It's so strong I haven't even fused my creatures or replaced the 2 deadweight trait creatures I have (crypt bat and amorphous shambler).

Well this is certainly a way to counter my debuff team. Guess I have a new trait to look out for.

Blood boil: When this creature provokes, it explodes and dies, dealing damage to enemies equal to 50% of its Speed for each debuff it had before it died.

is it best to match spell gem elements to the monsters own element? should i give every monster some gems?

i made a gem for my little green bard that lets him give everyone on the team random spell gems which seems sick

Sab669

Your creatures can only equip gems belonging to same school (class? race? I can never keep this game's verbiage straight). Life Creatures can only equip/cast Life Spells.

There are certain specializations and maybe Traits or other ways around that restriction, but generally speaking...

Creatures normally can't equip spell gems that don't match their own element anyway, so it's not something you need to worry about. Even if you can equip other gems to your creatures for some reason there's no particular downside to it, I think.

You can always class-swap gems at the enchantress, at the cost of not upgrading something else for that slot. This might be something you have to do anyways, because chances are you might want a spellgem for your build that is a class that isn't covered by your creatures

I tried a build like this a couple of patches ago. It turns out that the resurrect effects from eruption are treated as though the creature actually resurrected. This meant that things like the phoenix trait Final Breath had a high chance of killing the attacking creature.

I reported the interaction, but never tested if it had been changed or not. The build was great fun, but it was too frustrating for me to have it hard countered so often.

Whaddup gangsters, I'm stuck on Level 26, the boss of the heaven realm. They are absolutely trouncing the poo poo out of me despite being avg level 33. I'm taking huge damage, I can't get through their barriers in time to make a dent, and even when I do, they've got tons of Res. I've had an absolutely asskicking party up til now, and this feels like a total brick wall unless I have to go and level up a completely different team comp, although I'm still very sus about the amount of damage I'm taking when I'm 7 levels higher.

Any thoughts? This feels unbalanced, it's a total brick wall and I don't want to put in hours of grinding finding some different party comp to get around it

What specialisation is your character? This boss is pretty much a damage check, which can be painful if you've set yourself with a slower tanky team

There are some spells that remove barriers like dispel, have a look through your spell gems to see if you have any spells that might help.

Yeah, I guess I'd have to grind out for that Remove Barrier gem but god knows how long that would take. I still think I'm taking too much damage. It's weird. I last like one round, I'm almost 10 levels plus. Think I might just suck it up and netdeck a killer early build.

It just puts up a 100% barrier at the start of the fight, and a lot of the adds have res so it's just a war of attrition. My problem is I'm being one-shotted by everything in the first turn, and damage numbers from mobs on the floor just below are way, way less than what I screenshotted. Really odd imo.
