If it's going to be mandatory (and iirc euro 5 requires regular emissions testing at MOT, so it's not like you can ever remove it) then it's better for it to be integrated in the visual design imo. This big silver lump is way cleaner than the huge beige boxes we were getting when euro 4/5 first came in.

What the gently caress?

When did this happen?

I thought the UK, after Brexit, doesn't give a poo poo about Euro 5?

Edit:
https://www.gov.uk/emissions-testing

"MOT
Most vehicles have their exhaust emissions tested as part of the MOT.

Usually, they’re tested using a meter. Petrol vehicles used before August 1975 and diesel vehicles used before January 1980 are tested by sight.

If your vehicle fails the emission test it fails the MOT. The problem must be fixed before you can get an MOT certificate.

The only vehicles that do not have an emissions test as part of the MOT are:

vehicles with fewer than 4 wheels
vehicles with 2-stroke engines
hybrid vehicles
quadricycles
hydrogen fuel cell vehicles
electric vehicles"

Huh, well then. They snuck that in, all the articles from 2019 and earlier were breathlessly talking about what a ballache euro 5 would be for bike ownership. I guess the magazines decided "oh, nevermind, we're not doing that now" wasn't exciting enough news to be worth a headline.

I simply not a fan. I've never found a windscreen that didn't give me helmet turbulence in some way, or being too drat huge. I wanna see the road, not a windscreen. I really prefer sitting in clean air. I just use enough layers + gore-tex to make up for the lack of wind protection when it's cold.

I'm hoping Euro5-ed bikes will have aftermarket de-catting kits so the ginormous unsightly metal box under the bike can be binned for a far more aesthetically pleasing Akra/SC Project/Arrow system.

Last I heard (admittedly a while ago) they were going to wait until 2023 at the earliest because at the moment of course there's almost no Euro5 bikes coming up for MOT so there's no point in enforcing it (and in particular forcing test centres to buy a whole load of new testing equipment). This would also line up with the provisional plans to expand the ULEZ for bikes to Euro5, currently pencilled in for some point after 2022 to avoid forcing loads of people who bought new bikes in 2017 to have to replace them again so quickly.

If they were doing it sensibly they'd have delayed putting bikes in the ULEZ requirements at all until Euro5 was well established to give people a few more years of grace to replace old bikes but expecting common sense from TfL is optimistic at best.

If you're going to put an aftermarket exhaust on your bike, get one that can fit a cat - Akra, Arrow, and several other reputable manufacturers make them, and they're unobtrusive .

But bikes pollute less than cars! Not really - pound for pound, they used to be worse (and I say used to be because this data is at least 10 years old). I'm sure overall emissions from bikes have improved over that time span, but the cars have too (VW notwithstanding)

Although bikes adhere to lower environmental norms (cars are at euro 6 or 7 by now afaik), because they generally cover much less distance (mostly fun and weekend rides) they barely make an impact on the environment.
The notable exception are commuter bikes, but those are often more recent bikes that adhere to newer emissions norms.

I am a proponent of catalytic converters and such, but i think it's bullshit to not allow the older stuff to just die off by themselves. How many 1990s GSX-R's are there still on the roads? I know that they used to be bloody everywhere, but a carb'd gixxer is extremely rare these days. They just disappear by themselves. No need to force them to be scrapped.

Secondly It’s currently not running due to it not getting any spark, overall a good bike for me for the last few years. What’s been done so far has a rear tire, new front and rear sprocket and chain, led turn signals front and rear, no tank damage, I have a front tire just not install. I rode last year and it ran just fine. Asking price is $1000.00 or best offer. Photos aren’t up to date cause I have pieces taken apart at the moment Read Less
