To be honest, one of the things that keeps me from using the discovery queue more often is how it works. If it just gave me a list of things that I could highlight and preview that way, it'd be fine, but instead it's just a list I have to go through page by page and I don't like having to go through each individual page just to say I'm not interested in or am interested in a particular game.

Also did some more discovery queue stuff and it took 2 more queues before it started showing me a regular stream of indie titles and that's when the porn games started getting tossed into the recs, I like how my queue must be so hosed that steam is just like "hey do you want GTA4? Football Manager 2021? Star Wars: The Old Republic? No? Okay what about Memoirs of a Battle Brothel?"

My discovery Queue is browsing this thread and idly checking every game that gets mentioned and if it looks interesting/goon buzz around it is generally positive, I wishlist/buy it and if not,I just move on.

It actually works pretty well and as result I didn't use the Steam Discovery thingy in....years, I think?

Yup that's exactly what happened lol

Same queue that recommended "memoirs of a battle brothel" and "carnal instinct pre-alpha" also suggested ecosystem (a god game about creating sea life and watching them evolve and guiding their evolution) and the panzer dragoon remake that I'd forgotten about so thanks steam queue and thanks steam thread for reminding me of the queue in the first place

If you want to see good upcoming games you'd be better off using the popular upcoming tag. Discovery queue also works based on your preferences and library so if you are seeing a lot of crap you probably own too many "ironic" bad games.

I mean, if you're a successful actress and you go out of the house in a skirt and without underwear, knowing that paparazzi are just waiting for opportunities like this and that it has happened many times before, then there's really nobody you can blame for it but yourself.
You can toggle the Ignore button even on games you own, which might make it exclude those for purposes of generating your discovery queue. I think it at least does so with unowned games that you've ignored, but I'm not sure how the algorithm handles it in that case.

As someone who has played them all I like 2 but didn’t like 3 at all but felt that 4 was good enough to be enjoyable. It still has stuff to complain about, isn’t as good as TFE/TSE/2, and the rebound from 3 might have me liking it more than I should but I’d still tentatively recommend it. If you liked 3 you might even love it.

Eximius is alright; the guns have way too much recoil and all the movement feels very floaty with no weight to most of it. The combat is really lethal sometimes and bullet-spongy other times. The RTS side works a lot better than most attempts at this sort of thing I've seen, it's still not great since you'll be zoomed way out an unable to see all the cool fighting, and the some of the stuff that makes a map good for FPS fighting makes it rough for an RTS (I once got 'sneak attacked' in the sense that I didn't realize from birds-eye that the building had an overhang you can just walk under). Also there's weird glitches. But it's functional and relatively easy to do once you figure out things the tutorial doesn't mention like locking resource points. It definitely feels more like something you'd play with friends against AI vs playing with and against random players though

it's solid enough but you should know exactly what you're getting at this point and expect nothing more than that. it's the same formula, just paced well enough to feel like an improvement over 3. it's dragged down by some really poor performance on some levels but it plays to its strengths a lot better than serious sam 3 in general with more ammo for the fun weapons and only one level I'd say is bad, which itself isn't very long (notably, the last level felt pretty well tuned and wasn't an ultra slog like 3's). There are some vehicle bits which I'm sure some people will find annoying but they're short and I didn't mind them.

I'd say it's pretty good.

Cowcaster posted:

sorry i wasn't trying to be mean if it came across that way, i was just trying to say it's kind of self evident that you'd find the steam discovery queue more useful than most people, you buy lots of games and you like finding new games to experiment with. but for someone who's not regularly picking up new games, or wanting to try them out at the drop of a hat, the utility of it as a meaningful way to find new games that they'd actually like goes down dramatically

That's a valid point, thank you.

On a related note I tend to treat all media like this which can lead to some...frustrating results with actually finishing anything. I suspect I have untreated adhd, and I'll talk to my doc about it. Until then I'll check out literally everything as much as I can!

Does anyone here have a standalone Steam Link that they use? I'm using Steam Link on a raspberry pi, and I think the latest update to either the steam link software or the steam client has sorta broken it (a black text box is overlayed on the screen at all times lol). I'm just wondering if this is a raspberry pi thing or if its something they just broke in all steam links, so i'd be curious to know if anyone else had an issue.

I think they might be including dad Nier as DLC or something similar. I follow Drakenier people on twitter and there was a lot of clamoring about the choice of Niers early on, but they seem to be happier now.

Oh I think it's cool, lol, it's just probably a good bit more than the average person in this thread. And your highlighting of stuff I never would have heard of before has led to me finding some cool games. But I'm a little more hesitant to make purchases these days, perhaps feeling the weight of my backlog more than you are, so something just looking interesting the discovery queue usually isn't enough to push me into a sale
