I get the feeling they buffed horn damage for the demo or at least the horn in the demo is better than all the other demo weapons and the horns in the main game will be in line with weapons of their level.

No proof or anything just a feeling.

So did anyone actually notice performance differences in the weapons/armor or did they flatten it all out for the demo? Longsword used Magnamalo, did anyone notice it dealing more damage than it normally would compared to weapons of its level? SnS presumably used starter gear but I didn't notice it being any weaker than anything else

Post? What post? Oh wow.
I had nothing to do with THAT.
Now that Savage Axe is a mod for changing the Charge Blades moveset focus, I am probably going to main that this time around. I hated its normal mechanics, but the Savage Axe I loved.

Didn't know that Savage Axe was coming back until you posted this. That's very cool!

Found this video showing it replacing the condensed sword slash: https://youtu.be/H6AJ7lGN9ek

Switchable skills seem like a neat idea all around.

E: Charge icons are confusing in that video. They activate Savage Axe without charged shield at one point. Was that possible in World? Wouldn't have thought so since you need SAED to cancel into Savage Axe, right? Wonder if Rise is bringing new modes.

I cannot overstate my disappointment at Savage Axe get left in the cold (heh). The switchable CB skill got me amped (heh) again.

I think this is a silly question but Rise is going to run at 30fps right?

Some of the videos make it seem smoother.

Yeah, don't know what to tell you about the videos. Maybe really consistent 30fps?

I though this same thing when I saw Palico skills were back. I need it to be something like “another hunter needs your help” scenario rather than a dismissal. It hurts extra that there are multiple confirmations to let them go as well.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that they're using an early PC build to show off the game in videos. The demo seems to have some slow-down occasionally, so I'm bracing myself for a "less than rock-solid 30 FPS" experience.

Yeah this is kinda what I’m afraid of. I know the switch isn’t super powerful and all but a nice consistent 30 would be great.

I only played it handheld but I did play it a lot and it ran incredibly well

genuinely unsure what sort of sorcery they used because the game both looks and runs better than most Switch titles

Speaking of performance, Digital Foundry just published their tech review:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiVgTBROwNY

TL;DW: Framerate stays at 30 most of the time, with occasional slowdowns into the mid-to-high 20s. Huge caveat: he hasn't been able to test multiplayer yet.

Edit: And Arekkz has just published a spoiler-free review talk with his mates:

The reviews are pretty drat positive, only complaint I’m seeing is the endgame not being particularly great. Suspect that is the April update along with chameleos though so will hopefully be remedied quickly.

The Wirebug changes the entire pace of Rise. Monsters attack faster because I can dodge faster. Areas are more vertical because I have the means to climb hills, mountains, buildings, cliffs, and bluffs.

It’s freeing, and it makes Monster Hunter: World — barely three years old and the current gold standard for accessible monster hunting games — seem archaic and slow by comparison.

This game should be playable on Thursday at 12:00 AM EST. Meaning if you're on the west coast 9:00 PM PST. Third party games get released at 10 I think on the day of release, but MH:R is a big game.

the one thing I hope they find a better balance on is making the endgame feel less of a treadmill where each subsequent title update is the new endgame defining meta. I rather them play with existing monsters as new Apexes or maybe tempered/AT as viables upgrade paths

Me too, I'd rather fun sidegrades or armor with very specific utility/defensive skills than the power creep of World

All reviews look glowing except for the dumb dogbrain from GameInformer who took off points because "the lack of meaningful story beats makes the plot fall flat." Uhhhhh the story scenes in World was the worst loving thing to sit through, if there's less of that and I can skip cutscenes then that owns.

ScootsMcSkirt

oof, review just mentioned that endgame lacks elder dragons and tempered monsters. That kinda stings but I hope post game stuff are the first things they add in the content updates. Sounds like the game kinda ends after the last quest and there's not much else to do.

still super excited tho and Im confident that Capcom can add to the game and really make it something special. Any word on what the first few updates will be?

Yeah I definitely noticed even arzuros in the demo being much more aggresive than past games. Its cool.

Id be lying if I said I wasn't bummed about endgame. Since that is where a lot of players spend most of their time. I really take my time going through these games though, so I really hope they can add meaningful content with that chameleos release.
