While I don't doubt that MHR is a great game, I'd rather have a review from a publication that I haven't seen give 8's to games even IGN won't rate higher than a 6.

Monster Hunter is a fantastic series, it's just not for everyone. If you like it you are going to really really like it Traditionally (before World) it may take a bit of bashing your head against the wall to figure out because the tutorials are pretty much non-existent. If there's good tutorial support you can probably just follow that and know if the game is for you or not.

The lack of WiiU titles got me on the Mon Hun train and I played a few of the older ones boy did they ever used to be so much more obtuse. There's a really good game there and they seem to have finally figured it out. It was pretty easy to get friends to pickup Mon Hun World compared to past titles.

Yeah I'm not sure why you all are acting so shocked, mhgu and world were also 10/10 games. It doesn't mean it's for everyone, that's not what 10/10 means at all.

Actually I'm pretty sure there's not a single agreed upon definition but previous monster hunter games have been consistently simply excellent. Newcomers are happy, fans are happy, what's not to love?

Maybe not on the PS2, but every other one for sure. MH3 is the best game on the Wii, 3U is the best one on the Wii U, Portable 3rd is the best game on the PSP, MH4 is the best game on (new)3DS, World is the best PS4 game. uncontroversial

Ehh maybe let's only start counting after 3 (the one with god awful underwater combat that was otherwise fine)

It is going to be a little rough going from 60 frames to 30 frames I think, PlayStation has really spoiled me lately. Considering this is the proper sequel to MHGU I'm willing to suffer through it but man 60 fps monster hunter world was such a joy

This is my most and really only anticipated switch title everything else is zzzz

Sometimes people like things you don't like. You need to dig deeper and figure out what it is specifically that you didn't like because you have given absolutely zero information here

I mean if you want, I can completely understand why somebody would not enjoy monster hunter

I was getting around 40 to 45 FPS on my old gaming PC haha still a step up over 30 but I didn't get the full clean 60fps until I played on PS5. Man I don't miss that about gaming on my PC maybe it's because it was a mid-tier build but performance was very inconsistent and I spent over 1K at the time!!

Murder by Numbers is half off. Is it a good pickup for Picross fans? I like mysteries in general too, so it seems right up my alley but also seems like the type of game that could be a disaster if not executed well.

It's fine. It's not a phenomenal effort from either aspect (the ace attorney bits are a little undercooked and the Picross isn't quite as smooth as Nintendo's efforts) but it's a good package overall.

Exactly. The Gameboy Color technically was a new system but it really blurred the lines. I wonder if that's what Nintendo is going for.
Nintendo wanted to push the Game Boy Color as a new system because the original Game Boy was already nine years old at that point. The Game Boy's intended successor, Project Atlantis which later became the GBA, wasn't ready, and the its quasi-successor, the Virtual Boy, was a total flop. Conversely the Switch is only four years old and doesn't really need a refresh except that a certain segment of the market is wondering what Nintendo is going to do for "next gen".

I think the New 3DS is the most analogous. You can be certain that Nintendo's flagship titles will remain regular-Switch compatible but there may be a handful of third-party PC/PS5/XSX ports that are "Pro" exclusive.

CFox

I'm not too worried about Switch Pro exclusive games. There's already 80 million switches out there and the vast majority of people aren't going to upgrade to the Pro if the bump is as minor as rumored and the price increases.

Portable 3rd is more or less all the good parts of 3 without the water stuff, same fields but new village (Yukumo village as seen in generations), all the 3rd gen monsters + old monsters brought up to 3rd gen standards, all the weapons that were missing from the og MH3. Good rear end game, currently the 3rd best Monster Hunter imo

While I can't quite disagree wit your second point (I started with MH Freedom Unite on the PSP and had a friend explain all the weird poo poo to me), I feel like the popularity of MhW has led to numerous tutorial videos if you want to find the weird combos and stuff, and the game does a decent job explaining the basics at least.

I disagree entirely with your first point. I've played through many games, playing with friends very rarely except to take on some serious challenges.

I generally play the entire story first because I'm afraid I'll be embarrassed at my skills using a new weapon. I then finally load multiplayer and everyone is complete poo poo and I have to carry them. I then get a bit further and the bad players have been weeded out and everything is good.

I'm someone that doesn't change weapon class ever in a play, that character is a gun lance specialist that's what the 200 hours are going to be damnit. (firing mid air to land damage that also dodges an attack and lands you in a good spot to come in and poke the monster with your lance after the attack is done if you didn't knock it over is so fun). Not sure what I want to try for Rise yet never done any ranged but they have always looked boring, maybe range is fun?
