Folks Monster Hunter Rise is going to be insanely loving good and the best time ever to jump on the MonHun bandwagon.

It looks like right now you can get them from a few places at msrp but it's been hit and miss over the last several months. The first time I tried to buy a new Switch off of Amazon in February, this is what came to me: I immediately returned it because it was clearly used and I didn't want to risk it being already banned from Nintendo online but lol wtf. It wasn't even listed as used.

I still can’t separate review scores from console war nonsense because I spent an ungodly amount of time arguing on the gamespot system wars board back in the day. Oh monster hunter only has 88? Trash, when is the next AAA scoring switch game.

Al-Saqr posted:Holy poo poo Eurogamer just gave Monster Hunter Rise a 10/10 calling it 'the best switch game since Breath of the Wild' Monster Hunter is a fantastic series, it's just not for everyone. If you like it you are going to really really like it Traditionally (before World) it may take a bit of bashing your head against the wall to figure out because the tutorials are pretty much non-existent. If there's good tutorial support you can probably just follow that and know if the game is for you or not. The lack of WiiU titles got me on the Mon Hun train and I played a few of the older ones boy did they ever used to be so much more obtuse. There's a really good game there and they seem to have finally figured it out. It was pretty easy to get friends to pickup Mon Hun World compared to past titles.

Yeah I'm not sure why you all are acting so shocked, mhgu and world were also 10/10 games. It doesn't mean it's for everyone, that's not what 10/10 means at all. Actually I'm pretty sure there's not a single agreed upon definition but previous monster hunter games have been consistently simply excellent. Newcomers are happy, fans are happy, what's not to love?

Ehh maybe let's only start counting after 3 (the one with god awful underwater combat that was otherwise fine) It is going to be a little rough going from 60 frames to 30 frames I think, PlayStation has really spoiled me lately. Considering this is the proper sequel to MHGU I'm willing to suffer through it but man 60 fps monster hunter world was such a joy This is my most and really only anticipated switch title everything else is zzzz

Murder by Numbers is half off. Is it a good pickup for Picross fans? I like mysteries in general too, so it seems right up my alley but also seems like the type of game that could be a disaster if not executed well.

It's fine. It's not a phenomenal effort from either aspect (the ace attorney bits are a little undercooked and the Picross isn't quite as smooth as Nintendo's efforts) but it's a good package overall.

punk rebel ecks posted:Exactly. The Gameboy Color technically was a new system but it really blurred the lines. I wonder if that's what Nintendo is going for. I think the New 3DS is the most analogous. You can be certain that Nintendo's flagship titles will remain regular-Switch compatible but there may be a handful of third-party PC/PS5/XSX ports that are "Pro" exclusive.

I'm not too worried about Switch Pro exclusive games. There's already 80 million switches out there and the vast majority of people aren't going to upgrade to the Pro if the bump is as minor as rumored and the price increases.

Good rear end game, currently the 3rd best Monster Hunter imo I'm surprised there wasn't a bigger fan translation effort for Portable 3rd.

I disagree entirely with your first point. I've played through many games, playing with friends very rarely except to take on some serious challenges.

I then finally load multiplayer and everyone is complete poo poo and I have to carry them. I then get a bit further and the bad players have been weeded out and everything is good. I'm someone that doesn't change weapon class ever in a play, that character is a gun lance specialist that's what the 200 hours are going to be damnit. (firing mid air to land damage that also dodges an attack and lands you in a good spot to come in and poke the monster with your lance after the attack is done if you didn't knock it over is so fun). Not sure what I want to try for Rise yet never done any ranged but they have always looked boring, maybe range is fun?
