Edit- That looks like a fake ripoff of the Closetmaid shelf support. In the real one, the anchor goes behind the bracket and the nail through the bracket into the anchor. It doesn't take much pressure and you don't want to be hitting drywall with a hammer full force. FogHelmut fucked around with this message at 17:29 on Mar 23, 2021 |

Sagebrush posted:That spark plug ceramic trick only works on the side windows of the car, which are tempered in a specific way that makes them explode when the glass is compromised. Windshield glass in contrast is laminated so that it stays intact when damaged, since it would be bad to have your windshield explode into fragments when a stone nicks it on the highway. Aircraft canopies these days are not glass at all; they're blow-formed polycarbonate or acrylic, which are plastics that crack when damaged rather than breaking into shards. Evilreaver posted:So now I'm thinking "what if the part of the canopy that gets spiked has already been shot out, does the pilot just get crammed into the unbroken canopy?" It would be a one in a million shot, but this is the OSHA thread, those odds happen sometimes. I am almost certain the F-35 had this type of system and there were recorded failures in testing where the dummy would just get slammed into the canopy, yes.

Lots of thing meant to prevent people on the ground from looking like targets were ignored and no one talked to each other. Student pilot was the guy who made the gun run while the instructor failed to provide good guidance, I can't imagine being in the student's shoes.

There's an article featured on the front page of Wikipedia about a plane crash I'd never heard of before, Aeroflot Flight 593 in1994. The relief pilot let his children take turns in the pilot's seat and the older one managed to apply enough force to the control column to disengage the autopilot; the resulting 90° bank made it hard for them to regain control of the aircraft. The inquiry concluded that the autopilot would have re-engaged and saved the plane if they had kept their hands off the controls.

crazy part is also that they managed to right the plane, but it was over corrected for and went into a stall, which they managed to recover from again, but at that point they were far too low and crashed into the mountain.

By popular demand posted:Was it turning her back on the bear the that triggered the attack? i think so. iirc the rule of thumb with black bears is to try to face them off if you can't calmly walk away, since they're smaller and more timid. black bears are almost like large dogs, they're more curious than anything and if they're scared or see you as easy prey you may be in trouble. the forest service recommends fighting black bears if reasonable, non-panicked escape is not possible - you can fight a black bear to the point that it will back off. if you run, it will chase you with brown and grizzly bears, play dead and hope the bear loses interest. then run for your life when you can. if you run, the bear will catch and kill you if it wants to. fight the bear if you have to, understanding that you're probably already dead and resistance is a chance for a miracle
