okay so of the parents who responded to the text thread it looks like four are staying 100% remote and three are definitely sending their kid to school. one of the parents said they were staying remote so they could travel lmfao

Finally start to see some semblance of a routine going and yesterday my 18 month old was pushed down at daycare by another 18 month old and then had her face bitten really bad. Her nose is really scraped up, forehead is bruised pretty bad and she has a nice bite mark on her cheek. Home now with her for the day but day care is really minimizing what happened despite one of the workers telling my wife yesterday the other child was aggressive and had been more so this week. Not really sure what the next step is but super pissed at getting a response of "sometimes kids push each other" which yes is true but an 18 month old who pushes someone then climbs on them to bite their face is wayyyy abnormal.

all of a sudden I'm worried that all these months of fake-chomping on our now-14 month old is going to turn him into a biter at daycare
|
# ? Mar 24, 2021 17:24 |
|
yeah don't normalize biting as a form of play or it's gonna be a bad time. there was a serial biter at my kid's old daycare that was expelled from the facility for too many overt incidents. one time I was in class picking up my son and the kid bit his own mom while she was there to sign a literal stack of "incident forms" from previous chomps.

# ? Mar 24, 2021 17:35 |

having a biter sucks. One of my friends' kids did it and it was a nightmare

the risk of your kid getting kicked out of daycare or summer camp or w/e reeeaaaally sucks

Yeah I feel bad for the other kid but not really sure what the answer is going to be moving forward. And trying to balance out what is actually right for everyone with pretty intense anger at the overall situation is pretty hard right now. Like legit my wife and I both work full time and that is barely making ends meet since she had cancer and was on chemo last year so we are in a decent hole. So we need daycare and that's the only viable option right now. Waiting to hear back from the director to set up a face to face meeting now

that sucks

It's ok, I think I just got pretty frustrated since it seems that parenthood just seems to be careening from one problem to the next while I have no actual idea what I am doing. Both kids had a great day home with me today and despite her face being all busted up my youngest has been in a great mood today which has helped.

I put off my 20 month old's first dentist visit for so long because of covid but now almost all of his teeth are in so we are going tomorrow. Having to assess every normal activity day in and day out is taking its toll.

Good soup! posted:My girl is two months old now and is all full of smiles and poo poo, it's so awesome I looked forward to vaccinations cause both my kids would always just sleep amazingly after they got them. I also told my 3 year old I was scared of needles last year when I got my flu shot and she held my hand while I got it. ( My wife is an ER nurse and bought one home for me so I didn't have to go out to get it) A month later when she and her sister had to get their vaccinations she held her little sisters hand and made sure not to cry so she wouldn't be scared.

Are you getting your kids one of the mRNA vaccines or the J&J one? And are you having two of them wearing a trenchcoat to disguise their age?

if a trial is in my city it is tempting to enroll my kid. She asked me the other day when she can get her coronavirus vaccine.

I had forgotten about developmental leap #4, which starts at 15-18 weeks old it sucks. The happy baby just screams all goddamned day long. She's happy some too but she won't sleep and is pissed off a ton.

It's weird! our kid was at the longer end of the tooth eruption charts. it sucked for her but all of her teeth are evenly spaced so that’s good!

silvergoose posted:4 month sleep regression, it's the worst. We were super lucky in that our regressions weren't that bad. There was a week where our three year old had croup so I slept with her to help calm her down before she panicked and had breathing issues and I have never been that tired before. I think I was borderline hallucinating near the end of the week. Luckily my in laws came down near the end to help.

Recommendation for all C-SPAM parents: get your kids hooked on traditional folk music! Folk music is as anti-capitalist as it gets, both in terms of the context in which it's created, and the subject matter of lots of the music itself. And so much of it is geared towards kids. Pete Seeger is a great jumping off point (at least for Americans, IMO). I didn't actually know his leftist bona-fides until recently, but he was a member of the Young Communist League and Communist Party USA, and some of his early groups were apparently intended "to function as a singing newspaper promoting the industrial unionization movement" (per Wiki). I can imagine it's harder to get kids into folk music if they're already into pop music, but if you've got really little ones who don't yet have their own taste developed, I definitely recommend adding some trad. folk into the mix. Even Raffi is great, if you go beyond his most famous songs -- he's more of a pop musician but with heavy folk stylings and definitely with a leftist/activist bent. Raffi deep cuts, baby Some of my family's faves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jg8UgQz4tBA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdgT4VwucH4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlmSEk-t0eY

My youngest (18 months) loves my folk music. Every night after dinner she points at the tv and says "music" and I put on Pandora and she will dance (spin in place until she falls down or just shakes her butt a lot). I have been on an Irish/scottish kick lately and she goes hard to the Paul McKenna band. I also love Dave Carter/Tracy Grammer and both my kids will dance to some of their faster songs.

Tzen posted:Having a second kid and seeing the extreme differences in their personalities/development/etc. is fun. My first had all their teeth in by 6 months old. Second one had just 1. First one was not physical at all, as in, they didn't know how to climb, were extremely cautious in all physical play, etc. Second one has no loving brakes and constantly wants to kill themself. My first was a moody, sullen teen at the age of 5 whose preferred amount of physical activity is remaining motionless. Basically me. The other one is 5 now and considers playing minecraft on the TV a full contact cardio sport and if I lie on the ground anywhere near him I am putting myself in real physical danger.
