Yeah I don’t trust people who jump at the chance to get their murder on for ‘ecological reasons’. It would require a systemic approach, not weirdos with BB guns.

Those starlings didn't ask to be here, either. It's a big problem but killing millions of birds seems like a lovely solution.

Good luck.

I don't mean this of course. I will, in fact, laugh as they get smarter and smarter, start constructing ever more complex weaponry before bringing the fight to you.

You got a better idea? :colbert:

I say we engineer a contagious disease that renders them infertile and only affects starlings

There’s video of a great horned owl doing this in the wild, to escape from a bigger bird.

I’m pretty sure owls are smarter than we think they are. Maybe not a lot, but I feel like a lot of our tests for measuring animal intelligence are pretty flawed.

I MUST learn how to do this

It's pretty easy.

1: set up hummingbird feeders, and attract a population of hummingbirds.

2: stand next to the feeders, or pull one down and hold it, and stand reeeaaallly still.

Get bashed, platonist!

Yeah there's not much to learn, you just need to have a lot of patience and stillness as you wait for the birds to very slowly test the waters and learn that you are not a threat.

Where'd he find the bathtub? :dadjoke:

I volunteered at an aviary for a couple years and owls are fairly low on the smart bird scale. As one of the aviculturists told me "they don't have to be smart, just sneaky."

Anecdotal, but I spent a summer working with a falconer who had a Eurasian eagle-owl.. Beautiful, huge, dumb as gently caress.

The vultures, on the other hand, would constantly figure out how to unlock their mews and the raven he had was the only bird I've ever met that judged me.
