I know we are laughing about that stuck ship, but… Watch this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CW4pG7Zu4vE I don't want to spoilt it, and you probably don't need to understand German to get what it's about.

Does anyone have that video of the guy who is (I think) on a ship, timing his jump just right with the movement of the boat that it looks like he's in microgravity for a second?

Significantly the potential reasons stated for the hit and run are weather conditions (although they don't specify wind I'm not sure what else it might be, visibility maybe?) and electronics trouble aboard the ship.

The death per canal talk reminded me of the Quebec Bridge's construction which was quite OSHA thread worthy with 2 collapses throughout the process, 88 deaths and countless injuries. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_Bridge Imagine building a bridge and the whole thing fails and collapses during construction. Twice. Yeah we did that! Today it remains the longest rail, road and pedestrian bridge in the world also A 2015 report posted:It is estimated that 60% of the bridge is covered in corrosive rust. Over a couple decades (don't recall offhand how many years exactly) 137 people died building the Current Welland Canal . Including one of my great grandfathers.

Yeah to be fair to Stucky McCanalfucker, like two minutes after it hit that ferry, the whole port was closed due to high winds. Also, they didn't stop, because stopping a ship that big in a canal like that is an emergency in itself.

I did this on a ship once and instantly felt vertigo afterwards, do not recommend.

Based on some comments I saw the canal is considered pretty dangerous by a lot of captains because the ships going through such a narrow canal have gotten so huge that bank effect causes constant near misses. It would cost more than $40 billion over many years to widen the whole thing to make it safer for such huge ships.
