Let me tell you about my opinion about Bernie Sanders and why Donald Trump is his true successor.

You cannot vote Hillary Clinton because she is worse than Trump.

Tiananmen Square in the Western imagination: A bunch of pro-democracy students just wanted freedom or whatever and the CCP ran them over with tanks and shot thousands of them in cold blood.

What actually happened: Students were a mix of pro-capitalist stooges, naive democratic socialists who thought Gorbachev was a swell guy, and probably a smaller cadre of dedicated leftists pissed at roaders. Workers were mostly pissed about privatization, breaking of welfare benefits, social security. Fighting broke out around the square. A few hundred to maybe a thousand died. The students were allowed to leave peacefully.

lol in typical american fashion there is no “peacefully” in our lexicon so our echo of this on jan 6th ends up with some q lady getting domed by the security state

Pretty sure I got this from some post in CSPAM but the Nord Stream 2 sanctions have been going for a while now https://www.economist.com/europe/2021/02/01/why-germany-wont-kill-nord-stream-2

quote:

Yet not only does that ploy look doomed, America’s dogged efforts to kill the pipe are bearing fruit. Congress has passed two sets of sanctions aimed at it. In December 2019 the mere threat forced Allseas, a Swiss undersea construction firm, to pull its vessels from the project, halting construction for a year and costing Gazprom a fortune. Many other international companies have been scared off.

Russian ships eventually restarted work in December. But the heat continues to rise. On January 19th the American government made good on its threats for the first time, slapping sanctions on Fortuna, a Russian vessel repurposed for pipe-laying. A few weeks earlier Congress passed an amendment to a different sanctions law, passed in 2019. By radically expanding the set of companies now exposed to American action to include insurers, certifiers and any entity supporting “pipe-laying activities”, the new law is a “game-changer”, says Mateusz Kubiak of Esperis, a Polish consultancy. Russian assets may eventually be able to finish the pipe-laying, he says. But certification, a technical exercise to show the pipeline meets international safety and design standards, “cannot be simply transferred to some murky Russian company.”

https://www.dailysabah.com/business/energy/us-plans-new-sanctions-against-russias-nord-stream-2-pipeline

quote:

"Germany must stop feeding the beast while simultaneously not paying enough for NATO," he told the business daily.

Grenell was appointed by U.S. President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly criticized Berlin about the controversial Baltic Sea pipeline and for not spending enough on defense.

It might as well be status quo until US starts sanctioning German companies or something.

tbf, U.S. companies could probably build things faster in foreign nations where they don't have to care about local environmental conditions, zoning, or worker's rights, but it will still be very over-budget because of corruption and graft.

I've become increasingly Xinjiang-pilled since listening to the WarNerd episode on Adrian Zenz/The New Cold War. I was talking to my wife about it, and how all the english language stuff I read on it points back to sources that take USAID or NED money.

My wife happens to be a writer, and has done some arts and culture articles for the Russian opposition publication Medusa, I've asked her before if she thinks the US is involved in it, all she knows is that some oligarchs fund it and she herself hasn't had much editorial medaling. And I previously read something from them that was critical of Navalny. So, maybe it's not a total spook-show, idk.

Anyway, she suggested I run an article by an acquaintance of her's through Google translate. So I did, here's the article for those interested: https://meduza.io/feature/2018/09/18/kontslager-na-10-millionov-chelovek

The first-person reportage is pretty reflective of what WarNerd guests talked about. There seems to be a lock-down and control of movement and express in Xinjiang that's worse then the rest of China. But when the author talks about "the camps" all the sources they use point back to NED, USAID, Radio Free Asia and mother-loving Adrian Zenz.
