I always laugh at the horrific inflation in the game. I remember when I first ground enough money to buy the ludicrously expensive Armored Karuma at what, 450k? Now if I want to buy a remote controlled car it's 1.5 million.

And that 1.5 mil today takes about an hour to earn. Both sides of the equation are broken, and far too gone to be able to commit a simple re-balancing.

Lower payouts on the cayo and casino heists but keep inflated prices like a 1.2 million dollar honda loving civic?
Keep the payouts on those heists and lower prices? Anyone that's grinding it out is already going to be far ahead of the prices
Increase payouts on contact missions and other freemode activities? Peeps still going to complain and only play them on 2x weeks
Add some more tiered currency like chips? And then add content exclusive to those currencys?
I'm not even getting into shark card conspiracies around these type of changes

To me, it feels like R* knows they're approaching the endgame of GTA5 but at the same point know the game is perfectly playable. Isn't that the same sort of theory as in single player when you can play the market and make a billion for each dude, close to the end of the game, so that you can continue playing with nice stuff and get all the toys after that point? It's warped tho cuz in online youve got players at all different stages of the game playing at the same time

The post made by the guy who discovered the code is pretty cool, and goes into detail about how he figured it out and came up with a fix.

I've seen people post that they're able to go from starting the game to playing in under 2 minutes, and from singleplayer mode to online in 20 seconds. It all varies by strength of PC hardware, but overall the loading times have been cut by 70%.

This all happened in the span of 2 weeks from him going public with the issue and fix, to R* putting the fix into the game.

e: VVV They did as of this morning with a 1 gb update, and he verified it using the same hardware. XBOX users are apparently having problems with the update, but PC (and I'd assume PS) works great.

the thing about a market that isn't real is that you can just keep inflation going until you reach the upper limit of how many bytes it can store without and there won't be really any problems. people won't starve or become homeless. So they could just keep doing that, or even do some sort of slow deflation. It's a market they could manipulate any way they want. Someone doing a phd should manipulate the gta$ for case studies in their thesis about late stage captilism or something

yea getting push updates about this from google news was interesting because it started with some niche article and my assumption it would never be merged into rockstars prodigious code to actually incentiving me to playing more.

I mentioned this in the Discord, but the problems with the load don't feel like incompetence, per se. Rather, it has all the tell-tale signs of legacy code. They probably had an old JSON parser lying around from a decade+ ago, since why would you reinvent the wheel if you've already written one?

Almost all codebases have that kind of thing laying around... it almost always takes a loan wolf to go and take the time to optimize it. :rockstar: is ahead of the game by actually merging it and using it and paying the guy. Plenty of times I’ve seen good enhancements like that die on the vine for whatever stupid reason.

Can confirm it loaded quite a bit faster. It's still a pretty GTA V-sized load time, but I got to get blown up from behind by a delorean much more quickly than usual.

vv the correct move for rockstar really would be to just say the loading times are faster, and let the placebo effect take its course vv

I'm pretty new at this game and have been mostly grinding out Sightseeing missions on near-empty servers, but today I was driving through the desert and another player was standing in the middle of the road ready to shoot my car so I slowed down and beeped a couple times for him to get in. He put the gun away and tried to get in but I didn't change my personal vehicle access so he couldn't. Then I sped off, honking wildly.

This game can be fun when someone in a flying motorcycle isn't rocketing you endlessly.

Inspector Hound

There are 56 motorcycle jackets available for free right now, some of them look pretty neat. What is this weird process it's been trying to tell me about having to go to the PSN store to get free money or whatever?

I finally got that flying motorcycle, I'm fairly sure I'll have enough money for the terror byte truck and homing missiles. I have revenge to exact.

I dunno, but I linked my Prime account to my social club thing and now I get 200k/week if I log in at all, and if I log in for all 4 weeks consecutively they toss another 200k in too. It's not much but hey spares me a couple hours grinding VIP missions a week.

edit it also won't work unless you've played the online tutorial for some reason, so I had to go back, create a second character, and have that character do the tutorial. It gives the money to either both characters or maybe just the main character, I don't really know.

If you are grinding VIP missions for money, then you should save every dime you make to buy the Kosatka.

Then, instead of grinding VIP missions you can easily grind the Cayo Perico heist for $1,000,000+ each time. You can even do all of the setups in a private session so no one can fly in on their rocketbike and nuke you 100 times while you're just trying to pick up a blowtorch.

You can easily run the whole heist from scoping to boating away from the island in less than two hours if you know what you are doing. There are plenty of videos on how to do this efficiently, including one from one of the regulars in this thread (sorry I can't remember who, someone please link the video playlist?!)

For solo grinders this heist is a godsend, and if you have a crew it is even better. More bags, more money!

Sounds more legit than injecting upgrades to cheap cars through the RSG app on PS3, then using that money to dupe Adders with prostitutes.

How much effort and money would I have to plan for, in order to get to solo the new heist in a reasonable time? If I first have to waste dozens of millions on properties and gear and then hours to run and optimize setups then I'm probably not interested, but I have no idea what to expect - I started the first mission from Madrazo's son (?) the other day and the game promptly crashed during a cutscene :argh:

Big step is getting 2-3 mil at one time for the sub. After that the prep+final time is around 2 hours total for a solo payout of 1-1.5 mil. Going to want a heli or something to assist with preps

Cayo Perico does not benefit from any of your previously-owned equipment or gear, though having certain tools will make certain Setup & Prep Missions easier (a Scuba Suit, mostly).

To get Cayo Perico prepped and finished quickly you need the Kosatka sub, obviously, and some kind of air vehicle. For new players this is typically the Sparrow since it lands directly in the sub and can be summoned directly to you.

Without any discounts, the Kosatka base cost with no frills is ~2.2 million, and the Sparrow will cost you ~1.8 million. So you're looking at 4 million upfront to get started.

These go on sale fairly regularly, and the Sparrow is 35% off this week if you have a Twitch Prime Gaming account linked to your Rockstar account.

The heist itself was solved within 3 days of it launching. It's a little tricky to solo at first but is very learnable, and everything can be done in an Invite-Only lobby so you don't even have to worry about griefers or cheaters.

Yeah, the Cayo Perico heist just seems like a big time and resource investment that I'm not really feeling yet. I've got a (free) business that I'm mostly ignoring because I hate crate missions, a (free) cash counterfeiting operation that I'm running, and beyond that I'm mostly just running the cash and sightseer missions saving up for a fully upgraded coke lockup. After that I'll probably upgrade my gun running business in my (free) bunker and then work on buying a nightclub to consolidate it all.

I don't usually have multiple hours to play in a sitting, I generally have between 30 and mayyybe 90 minutes at a time, which is likely to get interrupted by a sad baby, and during the workday I can generally leave my poo poo running in the background while I do my real job and just take a break every hour or so to run cash.
