Excellent.

From looking it has more then enough that I would call it a proper sequel. But a lot of sequel's are just improvements on their original.

Preordering is pretty safe if you do a modicum of research and understand your own tastes.

I haven’t had a bad preorder since 2009.

Changes look interesting. I really never understood why tourists would come to walk around the island or why they picked islands where tourists are walking about old ruins to build the evil lair.

It's because that's what a James Bond villain would do, have a big casino for spies to hang out in adjacent to the secret lab where you're building the mind control beam or whatever

In the first game the casino is super duper expensive and like agents only go into it to blow up the piano with dynamite.

Mostly I just had trouble dealing with agents at all; either I kill them and a bunch more show up to replace them, or I have a valet confuse them and deposit them right in front of my front door

this once resulted in me setting a red alert and my minions deciding to all walk single file towards the entrance where the agents were, very politely dying one at a time

Hopefully my boring method of dealing with agents won't be the go to with the heat changes. I played assuming agents not returning at all increased heat in the first game.

Attention traps everywhere so they're constantly forgetting where they've been and are more likely to step in more traps, and if they get into the base and cause trouble give them a trip to the mixing bowl so they forget what they've seen and give all the minions in the cafeteria a loyalty boost.

This post just reminded me of the fact that henchmen had limited lives (3?) in the first game, and then they were gone forever. That was super annoying when Jet Chan would roll in and just start clowning on people to down them in one hit. I hope that mechanic does not make a comeback.

Mixing bowl on the other hand, that absolutely needs to make it back. That was hilarious.

Yeah, as soon as I was able I had a dedicated room just away from the prison filled with nothing but mind screwing tortures. There was kind of an exploit where if you put one of the Super Agents in one and then ordered them captured while they were being led away, they'd get taken right back to the prison again. I just kept doing that forever to Jet Chan to keep him from doing anything horrible.

This literally happened to me a few days ago when I was dusting off EG1 again.

"The ninjas are shooting a bed again. No it isn't blocking pathing. I guess just gently caress that one bed in particular"

I wonder if beds still explode violently in EG2. At least more than just valets can use a fire extinguisher now.

I got to the final stages of the game with the bad guy from big trouble in little china after a long number of attempts, can't remember if I beat it.

I have only learned recently you were supposed to use traps to generate cash. And by playing it now I can see why its a haze of however many hours I played it before because the game is really slow.

like half the 'strategies' in EG1 are really just exploits because the game is unfinished and buggy. the main thing it had going for it was style, and because PC gaming in the early aughts was a dire wasteland. like vampire bloodlines came out in 2004 and it was regarded as RPG of the year despite being a similarly broken mess. the only other title in contention was... knights of the old republic 2. really the only thing going was first person shooters and sims 2 i guess. loving nothing in the management game space

No idea about henchmen, but I'm gonna pick Max as my first genius, too.

Out of curiosity (as I don't remember much of my time with EG1) how feasible do you think it'll be to start off with a relatively successful/break-even front operation (e.g. casino) and then after that's been built, expand beneath/behind it with the evil lair.

I posted the four starting Henchmen on page 1 if you want to check them.

Well all you need is some Valets that you can get right away, should not be too hard. The Casino will always be the front of your evil lair unless you decide to smash and replace it.

Also heard based on feedback there was a change to how casino items worked. Originally you would set the items to either reduce agent skill, or scam tourists for money, now they just do both.

Oh, good to hear, regarding the casinos! I guess I'll have to make a nice big fancy casino and other 'innocent' facilities out the front (presumably living quarters for my valets etc are OK for agents to see in EG2), then gradually expand my lair.\

By the way, killing agents doesn't increase heat alone - that's only if the body is found or they escape, right? If so, I might need to recreate my old mini-labyrinth of death for agents to navigate, if they leave the casino!

Based on what I've seen it's not really feasible to make a break-even casino in the early game, that seems to come later. The casino comes with a bunch of old defunct stuff that you're meant to sell for cash, to let you get into the groove of stealing money on the world map. Actually using the casino as a front comes later

The previous game was similar in that way I think, I remember that it took quite a bit of research before you could even start building casino stuff. It's primarily to give you a convincing cover operation

If enough Agents don't report back apparently that will raise heat by being suspicious.

I plan once I can to more or less make the first floor my unassuming area. Home to stuff like Staff Rooms, Mess halls, Sleeping areas and other stuff that won't really grab agents attention.

That's just in the tutorial. You can mess with your casino however you want at the start of a non tutorial started game, you just need to quickly kidnap a valet so you can train some up to run it.

Probably tech lady and her AI daughter.
On one hand, no Eli Barracuda Jr. On the other hand, fairly thematic.

Now I'm trying to think of other thematic combos.
Eli should go with everyone, but I hope he calls Red Ivan uncle or other forms of close affection. His pa knew him after all.

Red Ivan would also go along really well with Jubei, reminiscing about good jolly old times.

Max is probably the most receptive to Janet's fan mail (delivered by alarm clock).

And no clue on who less evil Thatcher would favour. Probably Eli, she'd approve his skillset.

I'm curious about Janet Bombe's ability to sabotage weapons. If she can make a super agents gun explode and they have to fight barehanded that might be really strong. Destroying evidence could also be good.

Other than that I'm thinking Emma and Eli to start with right now. Eli seems like a perfect all-rounder with his gun and smooth talking ability. Or Zalika and IRIS, which just makes sense thematically. I'm not convinced IRIS turning into a camera is that useful though.

i forgot about Eli, he's gotta be a strong contender. his abilities seem cool but i'm interested to see what his personality is like. if he's gonna be like a generic suave guy, or a more kind of threatening, ice cold guy. they have a lot of great actors to draw from in the kind of 70s and 80s b-movie era.

Neither am I, but maybe she can see through agents' disguises, and from the preview video it seemed like her camera mode could see through walls.
Her combat stats and combat ability seem good though, with strong attacks, high health and an invulnerability + full heal.

Worst case scenario you park her in the casino in camera mode and have decent camera coverage for free. I assume she doesn't generate heat simply being seen by agents and tourists; I mean, there isn't any law against genius inventor Zalika deciding to hire her AI daughter for casino security.

I'm scratching my head about Destroy Evidence. She's not erasing the agent's memories, so some heat should still be generated when the agent goes back home.

Imagine the debriefing otherwise:
Agent: "I infiltrated behind suspect's casino operation and they've got enough nuclear generators to power a small country, and a small country, behind it."
Emma's replacement: "Did you take some photos?"
A: "My spycam was defective and it didn't save the pictures"
E's R: "Your testimony is useless, we can't escalate things without photographic evidence"
(It would explain why Emma is simply loving done with the world though)
