Watson also went to Clemson. So there’s a interesting mix of players coming out of there.

Publicly supporting BLM isn’t really the same as “having black friends” and it also isn’t really commensurate with chud politics so he’s either in deep cover or he’s not one.

Justin Fields in Atlanta would be a pretty great match with a hometown kid running a Shanahan style run-based play action offense. They're almost certainly not getting a prospect of his caliber in the next couple years anyways so might as well take him now if he's still there. That Matt Ryan contract though. Even next with a post-June cut, they're saving $8m but taking $23m dead cap hits in both 2022/23.

Also, Mac Jones going to the Niners is the best case scenario for Carolina/Denver right? At least then they'd have a chance at one of the top 5 QBs.

I vaguely wonder if the Dolphins are planning a sneaky auction between Carolina and Denver if Lance falls.

I keep hearing that they love Smith and Waddle, so.might be okay with one of them if they can get a 2 out of Carolina.

Also in that scenario, 5 of the first seven picks would be qbs, again leaving them with one of between Pitts, Sewell and Chase if they trade with Carolina

I think this is absolutely on the table. I was initially lukewarm up the trade back up to 6 until that clicked with me.

I hope Carolina just takes Sewell at this point and they see where the cards fall next season.

Can’t say they didn’t try everything to upgrade the position. I think they zero’d in on Watson and and the niners caught them sleeping.

Do you have any informed guesses on who the Panthers were targeting with a potential trade to 3? Because unless it's Mac Jones, they might still be available.

The most attention they’ve given has been to trey lance. They sent the entire building to his pro day and all the reports leaking from team guys were raving about him. But I also think that was possibly just a show for Houston. We may never know for sure but it looks like Watson to Carolina very nearly happened right before the Buzbee allegations dropped.

So whether or not they actually like trey lance is anyone’s guess. I think it’s a good spot for him. He can just sit behind teddy for a season or whatever and they can solidify the line for 2022. By that point the defense should be hitting its prime as well.

I just can’t see Mac Jones. We’ll see who goes where for pro days today but ruhle had jones at the senior bowl and didn’t seem thrilled.

Unless the trade nets Watson or Lawrence, I don’t think it’s worth it. This market is completely hosed for QBs at the moment and the panthers still need a LT.

Oh my God I just realized something. Rumors that Burrow was stumping for Chase came out about a week ago.

Philadelphia says the only reason they traded from 6 to 12 with Miami is because they heard Cincinnati is picking Chase. So we have an unsubstantiated rumor that the Bengals are picking Chase and who benefits? Miami.

But yeah it makes too much sense. They're going to draft Chase on Thursday, and to make it to pick 38 on Friday without heart palpitations I'll need to score some valium or something off the corner.

I’m not too sure how close Carolina was to getting Watson. That really was only coming out of an ex player and a few local Carolina guys.

Either way, it sure feels that they’ll have their shot @ Lance at their 8th spot.

49ers beat writer Tim Kawakami was on the Around the NFL podcast and really poo-pooed the idea of the 49ers selecting Mac Jones. I didn't find his case very persuasive, but you know, it's a dissenting voice.

I can't help but think the Mac Jones talk is a bunch of journalists reporting on what a journalist said, rather than getting to that spot through their own research. Alternatively, Mac Jones's agent is earning his money pumping his draft stock. I feel like the 49ers could have found some trade partner that was less expensive during the draft if they wanted Jones that badly. 50% chance Fields, 40% chance Lance, 10% chance Jones IMO.

Farrar seems to be the only one nationally saying that Jones is absolutely not Shanahan's style. FWIW he ranked their fit Wilson, Lance, Fields, then Jones.
https://twitter.com/NFL_DougFarrar/status/1375830267340881923

quote:

As we’ve said, boot-action is a fundamental part of Shanahan’s offense no matter where he is, and that’s not what Jones does. He’s a pocket passer. A great pocket passer, but as I wrote in my analysis of Jones back in February, “It also limits Jones’ landing spots if he can’t run boot; there’s no way you wind up in a McVay/Shanahan/LaFleur offense if you can’t. And if you can’t effectively make plays on second-reaction throws… well, your real estate options just narrowed even further.”

So… yeah. I’m just saying that the 49ers didn’t move up to the third overall pick to take a guy who doesn’t fit what their offensive play-designer wants to do. And a quarterback who implodes the second he leaves the pocket doesn’t fit what their offensive play-designer wants to do.
