Running no point.

I guess this is the thing, it turns out the UK is mostly populated by cunts, so what sort of 2 party system is possible apart from very-right-wing and centre-right?

Or has the window recently jumped further right? Doesn't feel like it tbh.

The current system is entrenched, worldwide, and self-perpetuating. Take out only a portion, and it will rebuild itself from the rest, or generate itself from new recruits. It's not just the political class(Which outsources everything including 'thinking'), it's also the businesses tied to them(Who are also outsourcing everything). You could throw out the entire political class tomorrow, both current and 'heirs' in place, and within a few months any new bunch would be as bad as the old ones.

Sounds like it's less to do with the ban on games and more that the kids don't actually get a break and have a teacher watching them in a classroom 100% of the time.

Initiate a socialist revolution which robs the ruling class of their economic and political power and replaces it with working class power with structures that entrench themselves just as hard as the capitalist ones did.

Unrelated: I got a bunch of electoral poo poo today. What are those of you who haven't quit Labour/Momentum yet voting in the Policy Primary? I'm leaning towards "power for renters" out of ~pragmatism~, but I really like "four day week" (I really like a lot of them, actually)

I'm also scratching my head a lot about the Senedd election. Plaid are asking for my second vote, because Labour always clean up on the constituencies so the D'Hondt method means they've got no chance on the regional vote, which is instead split between Plaid, Tories & open fascists. I'd like to give Starmer a bruising, but I'd also like there to not be Tories or open fascists in the Senedd, and I'm not comfortable giving my vote to transphobes. There's literally no left party on the slate to throw a protest vote to though (and the other welshnat party is even more transphobic). I'm thinking maybe protest vote for Greens on the constituency list, and tactical vote for Plaid to keep the fash out on the regional?

A report on the Metropolitan police’s handling of a vigil for Sarah Everard has concluded that officers acted appropriately.

The report from the official policing inspectorate was ordered by the home secretary, Priti Patel, after widespread outrage at the scenes of officers grappling with mourners at the vigil on Clapham Common, south London, on Saturday 13 March. Today the report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) was published. It concluded: “The Metropolitan police acted appropriately at the vigil held in memory of Sarah Everard on Clapham Common, a new inspection has found.”

The vigil happened with Covid restrictions in place. The report clears police of being heavy-handed and says inspectors “found that the Metropolitan police was justified in adopting the view that the risks of transmitting Covid-19 at the vigil were too great to ignore when planning for and policing the event”.

“After reviewing hundreds of documents, body-worn video from police officers at the vigil and other media, and conducting interviews with the police, vigil organisers and politicians, the inspectorate found that: police officers at the vigil did their best to peacefully disperse the crowd; police officers remained calm and professional when subjected to abuse; and police officers did not act inappropriately or in a heavy-handed manner.”

The report appears to be a significant if not total vindication of police actions at the vigil. It does say there was “insufficient communication between police commanders about changing events on the ground”.

The report appears to rebuke critics, especially those in “positions of responsibility”. Matt Parr, Her Majesty’s inspector of constabulary, who led the inspection team, said: “Condemnation of the Met’s actions within mere hours of the vigil – including from people in positions of responsibility – was unwarranted, showed a lack of respect for public servants facing a complex situation, and undermined public confidence in policing based on very limited evidence.

The report says while most at the vigil were peaceful, a small minority were hostile to officers: “The peaceful and reasonable intent of the many was overshadowed by the malign actions of a few. Although not remotely comparable with the violence of some protests – including some in the days since the Clapham Common vigil – there was still a degree of aggression, rancour and animosity directed towards officers.”

quote:

- Leaders and governors have failed to arrest the school’s decline. None of the issues raised by Ofsted during the short inspection in June 2018 have been tackled effectively.

- The school does not have an effective safeguarding culture. Record-keeping is weak, and concerns are not dealt with in a timely way. Staff have insufficient understanding of how to manage difficult behaviour.

- Frequent changes in leadership and teaching have unsettled staff and pupils. The school closed for three days at the end of June 2019 because of concerns about behaviour and safety. Staff were unable to control the situation and external intervention was needed.

- Pupils’ personal development is inadequate. Not enough opportunities are given for personal, social, health and economic education. Careers guidance is inadequate. Pupils and parents have well-founded concerns about bullying. The school environment does not promote pupils’ well-being.

As folk have said fascism is being amplified and sold as a product by at least half the media companies as a new flavour of the standard right wing libertarianism.

As the UK decays politically there's gonna be popular outbursts of anger and attempts to change things, usually from the left or the right.

The whole system is set up to make absolute sure that whenever this movement surges from the left its smothered as quickly as possible but when it comes from the right that's probably fine what could go wrong. Particularly when the economic populist stuff can be excised leaving only the racist pro statue social stuff which the wealthy don't care about.

It's VERY much playing with fire but the UK consistently plays with fire cause a fire could never happen here.

We do have a majority government and most of the media throwing red meat to the english fascists constantly, while to be left wing is to be a discredited racist.

That seems fairly daft.

If Cummings was going to Barnard Castle to arrange domestic production of a COVID vaccine they would have said that's why he went, because it's a good reason to go.

The Barnard's Castle facility is owned by GSK, who at the time were trying to make their own vaccine so it's fairly unlikely they were secretly contracting to bottle the as-yet-undeveloped Novavax one.

Also why would any of the senior executives involved feel the need to actually travel to a small manufacturing facility in the middle of nowhere? They have phones.

Herd immunity as presented by Cummings last year (I.e. through mass exposure to the virus and not from mass vaccinations) was completely insane, would have causes hundreds of thousands of deaths in the first wave and given what we've seen from virus mutations in the last year wouldn't have even worked on its own terms
