So far this is pretty much exactly what I wanted out of a sequel. I'll need to learn more about base design in this one though (especially with multiple floors), I have so many habits from EG1 bases that I'm not quite sure carry over.

The tutorial is way to long, but otherwise it has been perfect. Also the new henchman are great.

My only major complaint is they tried to flesh out some stuff to be interesting, most notably the public front to your base, and I don't think they did a good job in that respect. But it's basically like saying it's a real EG sequel that improved the experience of playing it while not improving the actual gameplay much, which ultimately is better than a lot of sequels like this.

I played for hour and half so far and have really enjoyed the gameplay and the writing.

Some annoyances though:

Locker spam is back. And game knows it, what with having optional task of building 15 (or was it 10?) lockers during the tutorial. And the lockers are 3x1 size too.

If there is only one research station game will inform player that research is paused when minion leaves the spot, even if another is already on the way to replace the person.

There is small, inexpensive pieces of furniture that slow down various stat drains. I am afraid that this might lead into Two Point Hospital style of spamming rooms full of almost pointless crap to be fully efficient.

Yeah. Various stat replenishing rooms are the worst offender so far. 5 step tutorial for "To replenish [Brains / Morale / Health / Hunger / didgeridoo] build [far too large room] with 1 [item]" is annoying. I wonder if playtesters demonstrated that tutorials need to be this handholdy.

Did anyone else check out the game folder for moddability? It is full of interesting sounding folders with ".asr" files, which are some kind of archives I think. The files mention word "asura", which by quick Googling seems like reasonable clue to follow on.

Honestly? Considering the streams I saw I'd say the tutorial was not handholdy enough, mostly on minion management and world map strategy.
Minion efficiency uber alles early on.

PSA: if you go to the minion management screen and click on the workers there's an option to hire one right now for 10k cash. Free recruitment is every minute, but I have no clue how many you get each minute. I think it's a fraction of your maximum capacity because I saw more than one recruited at once.

Has anyone been able to get more than one scientist to work at a time? I have 4 scientists and 4 white boards, and only one of those scientists is bothering to do research work, and research completely stops when they decide they need to eat or sleep.

I've only bothered with the one white board but a strategy I've found to be reasonably successful is to have a mess hall, a barracks with some beds and a rec room all accessible from directly inside the lab, basically bolted directly onto it.

Okay, I seem to have run into a bug others have run into - the game has decided that I don't have enough power to run any of my research, despite having plenty of surplus power. As a result, the one researcher who was bothering to work is no longer bothering to work.

I may have to shelve this until the first patch. :(

Almost six hours played and I've had a blast. About the only gripe I have is that I wish the world map would be more obivous about which regions are idle. I spent a lot of time scrolling and squinting to check if there was an active operation in each area. A big ole 'NOT BUSY' icon above the criminal lair in each region would make life a lot easier.

Other than that, it's Evil Genius with a fresh coat of rather lovely paint and a lot of the tedious mechanics ironed out or removed altogether. If you're looking to play some 'Dungeon Keeper does Bond villain' then this is definitely what you want.

I do dig the "consume minion" for scheme mechanic. It really let's you set up a training pipeline then fire and forget all your goons. It flows much better this way than having to juggle a floating minion count in my head.

Having a lot of fun so far, but goddamn the camera rotation feels *awful*

Most games would have you click the scroll button and rotate the camera to a degree based on how far you drag the mouse left or right

In this game you hold down the scroll button and your left, right, up, and down movement with the mouse determines the *speed* of rotation in that direction, rather than the distance. And it's got a lot of inertia to it. Very annoying, I hope I get used to it soon.

Am I missing something with the criminal networks? It feels like you have to do a Reduce Heat job after every other job otherwise you get hit with a lockdown and a wave of investigators. Am I supposed to just shut down a network after a job if I'm not upgrading to level 2? Looking at it now it seems like I'd have no penalty other than not being able to stay in the same region for several jobs in a row in exchange for not having to wait 20 minutes to clear not even all the heat you pick up.

Also, sometimes investigators would just randomly start fist fights at the door into the base when they were just set to Distract and I ended up having to kill them anyway. Is anyone else seeing that?

Thirdly, gently caress you rear end in a top hat magician guy, see if I pick your questline again

I had the same issue for the first few hours. Zoom the map all the way out and mouseover each controlled region for a tooltip saying no scheme running. The scheme map could use some polish like having a hotkey to zoom to idle regions or doing it automatically upon entering the map.

All of them are equal. The Three are just stronger then Max in one category. Max however starts with Extra, Makes money easier, and can quickly train any specialists up.
