Like, Italians were massively discriminated against on account of being poor immigrants essentially. The Irish even more so. The current situation is that anyone of European descent in America is white (half exception for Jews and Roma people too probably), and any blanket statement against them isn't meaningfully racist because there are no underlying structures enforcing any kind of discrimination against them. Listen. I get it. I've noticed a recent uptick in jokes and memes targeting Italians and I've got my suspicions that it's, in part, because people are loving tired after this past year and want an outlet for their frustrations. Since Italians are White, they're an "acceptable" target with a pretty well-defined stereotype. But like, I don't think the meme thread is the place to fight this battle. Edit: And no, I got no idea why Irish people haven't been hit as hard despite how Italian-Americans are stereotyped as crimey mobsters while Irish-Americans happily became members of the police.
