I hate how smartphone photo processing is so allergic to a hint of noise that it turns everything into an impressionist painting. Anyway, looks like the MAGA cop won the race, along with most of the other candidates that I identified as awful. I guess the one bright point is that the dumbest candidate for library trustee didn't win. The library website had a "meet the candidates" page with a handful of softball questions, most responses were a couple sentences, maybe a paragraph, except for one guy. Well it looks like all the challenger candidates for my local board of education won. I got 2 flyers for 2 pairs of candidates. The black woman on one of the flyers got 3% less vote than the white woman on the same flyer, I wonder why  The other flyer I got had a perfect split of voters.Edit: It was a select 4 election, so I'd expect even splits if candidates were chosen because the sent out a flyer. Effingham county’s turnout was less than 13% so expect some more insane ballot resolutions to help turnout the base. We already want to kick out Chicago and we are a gun sanctuary county and we are an unborn baby sanctuary county so I am guessing that there will be some anti “cancel culture” resolution.

Incumbent Rock Island alderman socialist diesel mechanic Dylan Parker won, no surprise. god i hope he runs for state house someday. Tim Thomas appears to have won in Oak Park, also a DSA member; Anthony Clark lost there, i think this is the 4th or 5th time he's lost an election?

Does anyone have any links handy that break down which areas of the state are growing vs. shrinking? I recall in the pre-COVID times that there were all kinds of breathless articles about how everyone was leaving the state, etc. My suspicion is that Chicago/Suburbs was growing and the rest was shrinking, but I dunno where to start looking for something like that.

I know the joke going to school was "The three most racist cities in Illinois are Pekin, North Pekin, and South Pekin" I guess at that young age, though, I had sorta assumed that that was in a long-ago, far-away time. Reading that article, though . . . yeah, 1940 really wasn't THAT long ago, was it? (Of course, that's also a perspective one gets with age; it's much less long ago to me now than it was when I was 10).

I used to really dig the body style of the '80s Camaros, but after going over to Pekin with my dad once and seeing SO MANY of them just rusting away, I can't help but feel like I saw so many of them that they just don't have the same appeal they used to. Pekin ruined a classic American car for me
