I got my shot via the county yesterday and the wife got hers on sunday via walgreens. My city also sent me a text saying it was time for a vaccine, so I'm thinking it's finally getting distributed.

I hate how smartphone photo processing is so allergic to a hint of noise that it turns everything into an impressionist painting. Anyway, looks like the MAGA cop won the race, along with most of the other candidates that I identified as awful. I guess the one bright point is that the dumbest candidate for library trustee didn't win. The library website had a "meet the candidates" page with a handful of softball questions, most responses were a couple sentences, maybe a paragraph, except for one guy. What is your motivation for seeking [the] position...? quote:To serve What do you feel are the most essential services that the Library provides..? quote:Information theroies thoughts enlightenment If elected, what would you see as your responsibility to the patrons of the Library? quote:More history. Well it looks like all the challenger candidates for my local board of education won. I got 2 flyers for 2 pairs of candidates. The black woman on one of the flyers got 3% less vote than the white woman on the same flyer, I wonder why The other flyer I got had a perfect split of voters. Edit: It was a select 4 election, so I'd expect even splits if candidates were chosen because the sent out a flyer. Eeyo fucked around with this message at 06:28 on Apr 7, 2021 |

Fortunately Normal rejected the trumpists and the Diane Benjamin slate, which is awesome. My candidate cruised to reelection, which should not be surprising after she got her opponent kicked off for lovely paperwork (an Illinois classic)! And our current mayor won by like 5%. He sorta sucks, but he's better than his challenger at least. Unfortunately, Bloomington mostly went to centrists and Republicans, in a weird turnaround. Not what I expected. I thought the progressives had a really good chance. Now I need to figure out what a campaign treasurer does after the election. I am honestly lost at what my own next step is, lol.

Effingham county’s turnout was less than 13% so expect some more insane ballot resolutions to help turnout the base. We already want to kick out Chicago and we are a gun sanctuary county and we are an unborn baby sanctuary county so I am guessing that there will be some anti “cancel culture” resolution.

Technically there could be more mail-in ballots though, right? As long as they’re postmarked by 4/6, they’ll still count? I got a couple of races in single or double digits that hypothetically could swing if there’s enough of a late mail-in difference.

Does anyone have any links handy that break down which areas of the state are growing vs. shrinking? I recall in the pre-COVID times that there were all kinds of breathless articles about how everyone was leaving the state, etc. My suspicion is that Chicago/Suburbs was growing and the rest was shrinking, but I dunno where to start looking for something like that.

And, looking at the recent elections in the suburbs, the people moving into them are more willing to align with Democrats (or their best bet is that former R suburb voters are temporary switches). I know that down here in Central/Southern Illinois, social media posts are constantly “wish I lived in X state other than Illinois”.

I know the joke going to school was "The three most racist cities in Illinois are Pekin, North Pekin, and South Pekin" I guess at that young age, though, I had sorta assumed that that was in a long-ago, far-away time. Reading that article, though . . . yeah, 1940 really wasn't THAT long ago, was it? (Of course, that's also a perspective one gets with age; it's much less long ago to me now than it was when I was 10).
