It makes sense that the PRC probably wouldn't look kindly at Hong Kong being dominion status, since it would essentially be creating the nucleus of what would be a separate sovereign state on what the PRC considers its territory.

Some staffers in DC are probably feeling pretty smug right now, thinking they have gained some sort of moral high ground over China. The US India relationship is basically what I call US trying to not trip over herself to court India. It doesn't mean India is close to become an US "ally". Non aligned policy is basic building block of Indian's foreign policy since the founding of the modern India, it's not about to change by one populist leader. The Indian system is setup this way. For example, India has a funny weapon aqucition system that they buy weapons from everybody (outside of China), if Modi gets too close to the US, he will face resistance inside military that buys European and Russian weapons. India buy huge amount of weapons from Russia, and the US simply doesn't have offering in the same price range. That's just one easy example. And India joining the Quad is just India keeping the option open to keep China in check. Quad doesn't even have regular annual summit. And the US throwing the Johnson Johnson vaccine deal into the last Quad summit is a joke. It makes no sense to put it inside the Quad talk but US had to sweeten the Quad package for India. Its not like India desperately need the low tech Johnson vaccine from the US. Russia already gave the Sputnik vaccine to India to manufacture. India already manufacture the AZ vaccine and use it for her own vaccine diplomacy. So you see this is essentially how India do things, she will dance and flirt with every guy on the flood, to get the maximum amount of gifts from everybody. And the studs (US/Europe/Russia/Japan) all happy do the dance and sell India quality tech/weapon because unlike selling technology to China, selling tech to India is really at no risk of said tech being reverse engineered or copied and become your major competitor in 5 years. stephenthinkpad has issued a correction as of 08:42 on Apr 10, 2021 |
