For FCA that was acceptable for new engines, at least a few years ago. I assume it still is, because quality control isn't exactly a priority.

Lots of new engines have very high oil consumption. Thin oils and loose ring fits reduce friction which helps with fuel consumption. Subaru says 1 quart per 1,000 miles is acceptable. I think some Audi and BMW engines are said to burn a quart per 700 miles.

The old 3.8 and early 3.6s are not in that category.

That movie is never not worth a rewatch. I've read that it's shown in some law classrooms as a great example of what "voir dire"ing an expert witness means.

Believe women.

Not a bad price for a 74 442, but the pictures are all of poor quality and not taken at the same time, some even look like scans of actual photos.

Dude gets hostile when asked about better pictures, and isn't clear at all in the ad that this is a complete car and not being parted out.

Every time I looked at the miatas for sale, there's always one or two first generation models with low miles, listed for at least 10 grand. It has been the case since early days of Craigslist and Autotrader. They're always red and often automatic. Before Spec Miata was announced, you could buy them stupid things for less than a grand. Same with e-whatchamacallit 325 BMW

Hah! I saw that a few weeks ago on the Portland craigslist, was going to post it but it slipped my mind. I'm glad someone else found it.

When you put the word INVESTED in the sale ad, that means you profit on the sale, right?

The Miata has definitely become an “it” car, more than it was previously. Between several YouTube channels having project Miatas, sports cars seeing demand go up during Covid and the Miata once being the cheapest sports cars you could get, those factors came together to send the market through the roof.

Plus what would be considered a project with another type of car gets turned into an Exocet or kart with Miata so the supply of cheap Miatas is drying up. I keep dumping stupid money into mine and the market is keeping up. It’s wild.

As someone who's parents who had one (gotta ask if it was the V6) I totally believe this

Also, I think there's evolution here - if you think of car build quality as following the pardo principle (sp?) where 80% are average, 10% are great, and 10% are awful, then the survivors typically select from the top of that pile. This has been my grey friday theory

I have another theory

Old Jaguars are much cheaper easier to find, because while people were driving and using up Mercedes Benz and BMW, Jags were in the shop being fixed
