I mean, it was a little weird of her to write such an impassioned, lengthy commend in defense of Doug. Real left turn there.

everyone gets mad at the wall video but the worst thing walker ever did is the sailor moon video he did where, in order

1) talked about how much he wanted to gently caress the cast of sailor moon
2) 'wow they're 14!?'
3) 'the legal age in japan is 13 so its fine!'
4) 'actually, the men who designed these characters must have wanted men to gently caress them'
5) 'also this show sucks except if you want to gently caress them'

Funnily enough, I've heard about Sailor Moon for the first time from his videos and haven't watched the show till now, so for the long time my opinion was basically what he claimed in his reviews

Also, apart from all the above, iirc in the review he was trying to understand why Sailor Moon was so popular and because he didn't bother to watch more than 5 episodes or do any sort of research, he decided that the show had a genius formula which was just repeated over and over again and apparently that was enough. What an absolute clown

But Doug Walker still seems to think that all anime is like the shows that were on TV when he was a kid, so I don't know what I expected

I'm not American so can the condescension.

There's also a huge distinction between American liberalism/neoliberalism and actual liberalism which is certainly center left. Not far left, but left.

That person's compass is skewed pretty hard left as opposed to the American skew hard right.

The "Left" and "Right" axis are generally measured in two major ways: pro-revolutionaries on the left and anti/counter-revolutionaries on the right, and anti-capitalist, pro-labor on the left and pro-capitalist, anti-labor on the right. Liberals are ten degrees to the left of center in good times, ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally.

Adding unnecessary dashes clearly needs to be the next trend after Hollywood has finished the adding unnecessary articles to a title.

It was funny that on another place I go to, someone was confused and upset at why a Content Creator That I Won't Mention That Tends To be Very Unsavory was very popular and I wrote a small ditty on how while their stuff wasn't very good, their work was extremely prolific and had enough resources and frequent scheduling so in a way, in the time span you'd get something like a Sarah Z video or a Folding Ideas video, you'd get hours and hours of quick output from people whose work was let's say, youtube drama watch. If you were on a particularly dry spell and very slow day, at some point you'd just click that just to see what the hell it was to clear out because no one put out anything on that day. Sure enough a bit after that post Quinton Reviews and Izzyzizz both post hour long videos on Animeme and The Warrior Cats fandom, as if fate was like "OH NO I MUST PROVE YOU AS WRONG AS POSSIBLE".

I'd say a more blatant example of Doug's Sailor Moon video was his really old Airborne review, where he tries to pin the main character's motives as being fetish driven. The motives of "I was a surf practitioner and I miss being able to do that now that I live in Alaska". I'm amazed no one brings up that particular review when discussing like, one of his weirder ones.

As Dan points out multiple times in his review, The Wall is supposed to be a movie that he likes, and the review was meant to be 'a love letter'.

The astonishing thing about the clips of Doug that Dan uses is that for a man who's built an entire career out of screaming, he isn't even good at screaming. Like in In the Flesh, he plays a bit where Roger Waters screams GET EM UP AGAINST THE WALL and then the equivalent Doug bit and it's just, Doug can't even do that right.

In the sci-fi novel Silver Rain, part of the history is the general release of a bioweapon called the Amusica virus which destroys an infected person's ability to hear music as art. An entire generation loses a dimension of their cultural lives, but the greater tragedy is the children who grow up in it's shadow and never know music as anything other than random noises coming from a recording.

Was this bioweapon made by Dr. Wily? Because hot drat, that's some useless, but insane bullshit. What, did the makers think you need to see music as art to be able to fight wars?

Though I am a bit confused here, seeing something as art and enjoying it are two separate things. A virus which destroys your ability to see a thing as art wouldn't harm your ability to enjoy it, it would just lead to complex, wide-reaching changes in society. (Like music albums being sold under the hand in shady shops, like pornography in our world)

Hearing music as "random noises" sounds more like the virus destroyed the ability to enjoy music. So, I must know: Which is it? Destroys the Amusica virus the ability to enjoy, or the ability to see something as art?

Liberals of every stripe are pro-capitalists who are only occasionally tricked into being pro-labour. They are perceived as leftists (in America) solely because one of the most significant differences between them and "the right" is identifying being anti-equality as bad for business.

This was one problem that wasn’t exclusive to Doug but showed up a lot later on was doing a fairly regular weekly schedule, and doing videos on stuff they had no real interest in but fans demand it, or something that might not be a great video subject, especially for a shallow reviewer like Doug who misreads surface level stuff.

So you got even worse videos than their standard because there wasn’t a lot to talk about and they weren’t talented enough to talk about it well.

There are (or at least, were) local radio DJs in mid-market towns who were never big enough to be number 1 in their town or to get syndicated, but were able to scrape out a career doing their morning zoo program for 30 or more years. The 21st century version of being the most popular (local) radio personality in Sheboygan is having a mid-five figure number of followers who continue to check out your content. It's not easy or luxurious, but it's a living.

EDIT:

The big difference between the theoretical Sheboygan morning zoo host and Doug, though, is that if the morning zoo guy pissed off someone who later went on to be a lot more successful, the successful person left Sheboygan forever. All the people Doug has pissed off (who have since gone on to be much more successful) are still right there on youtube, ready and willing to take some swipes.

Yeah, I know. Which is why I was confused when the original poster started mixing "enjoying thing" and "seeing as art thing" as if both were the same. Stopping the latter would just be weird, but the other would be utterly vile. To go back to porn as the go-to example, many people enjoy porn, but the number of people who are also convinced porn is art is minuscule compared to them.
