I gotta say, the Indie World presentations always get me super hyped about the future of gaming, it’s cool that people from everywhere are able to put their game on a Nintendo platform that has such a massive audience. Since the Switch was never really about AAA gaming in the way that the other consoles and even the PC are it’s allowed something beyond the usual ecosystem to develop. Obviously the reason most people get the Switch is because of Nintendo’s games but there are just so many people who have one that there are audiences for things that might not ever have flourished otherwise. Seeing Aztech, that cool runner game from Detroit and that weird little thing from that German dev makes gaming feel so much bigger. The foundational creation myths of gaming tends to focus a lot on white guys in their 20s and 30s who built the industry because of how it developed and was marketed and it’s nice that such a wide variety of cultures are now being represented by the people who are a part of them. Like, I don’t know if I’m gonna play everything that was shown today but it was all really cool and Nintendo giving it the same sort of attention that they give to big publishers is a welcome change. Microsoft was the first console developer to give air to indies in that way with XBLA and the Summer of Arcade promos but I think that Nintendo saw that and realized that was what the Switch needed to succeed. I have more games for the Switch than for any console I’ve ever owned. Part of that is that it’s way easier and cheaper to buy games, especially with regular sales, but part of that is that there are so many more varieties. I know the Switch Pro is coming sooner rather than later but I truly hope that the Switch ecosystem lives forever, it’s the culmination of Nintendo’s rocky development over the last decade and it’s the first console since the PS2 that I can imagine having such a long life that people are still making games that play on it a decade down the line. I grew up playing Nintendo consoles and I think the Switch is their crowning achievement.

I remember my uncle would be down the hall at the casino and periodically he'd bring us a pile of quarters he won at the slots so we could keep playing. We beat the Ninja Turtle game twice on that trip.

Oxenfree is the perfect game to start at 5pm on an overcast afternoon and finish at about midnight huddled up on your couch. I really loved the voice acting for the.. late game thingy. Probably my favorite example of that sort of thing. I hope they iterate on that for the sequel.

My PC Skyline plays always end with like 10% of the map covered and the simulation running at like 1 game day per several real life hours at that point it's just too slow. I can't imagine trying to play on the Switch, you probably can get like 8 hours of play time with the CPU. Skylines is extremely CPU intensive and one of the things I like to do with a new computer is play Skylines and see how much more of the map I can cover before it becomes unplayable. There's people with really long saves that real life runs faster than the sim. They just let it run 24/7 and check in on it every few days. I found a lot of getting further in the game wasn't about solving problems so much as figuring out what caused a ton of CPU cycles and avoid doing that leading to very mechanical and min/maxed around CPU usage cities.

I had it for PS4 and didn't mind the controls, and taking it handheld would be nice, but was mostly wondering about the performance and it seems like that'd be an issue

I'm surprised a PS4 doesn't encounter much the same issues. It's possible the PC version just sucks or the console one has a bunch of stuff that's laggy stripped out.

Beat Mario 64 with 100 stars. I did all main 6 stars in the 15 courses, I'm probably missing some special level stars and all the 100 coins but nope not going to do that again. The game is remarkable for its time whereas today I'd say it holds up but it's not a great game. It's good. My memories of it were better than going through it just now, a lot of Stars feel like filler and for how repetitive the courses can be I feel like it could've been better thought out. Still it's small nitpicks for such a revolutionary game. I'll start Sunshine soon, which I've never played, all while plugging away at Pikmin 3. Speaking of Sunshine is there an ideal way to go at it, just blind? Any point in 100%ing it? 100YrsofAttitude fucked around with this message at 18:31 on Apr 15, 2021 |

Can someone give me a list of switch games that are discounted that I should Definitely Have On Switch? I was thinking of 'enter the gungeon' but I'm playing it on pc and have read complaints that it slows down on switch. Also I like having the large-resolution pc screen for it, although I'm not sure if that makes any kind of difference. I have Hades, Into the Breach, an atelier, a mario and a zelda already (but not the zelda ramake game), and spiritfarer

There are 30 per level, some only appear on certain shines (this is not told to you at all, btw), and nothing about them is tracked other than the raw number you have per stage. You can either way until the end of the game to track down all of them at once, or get the 96 "real" shines and call it a day. Anything in between is asking for heartbreak and frustration.
