I know Chris Hayes sucks because he knows about how bad all this poo poo is and yet still takes his paycheck but jesus christ he comes off looking a lot better than Jennifer Rubin saying that we should be actively and publicly trying to overthrow the Iranian regime while also negotiating with them like, why the gently caress would the Iranians do that if they know the US wants to topple their government?

The City Council wasted a lot of energy fighting with Durkan's veto crap. Having the person who delivered the "cut the budget of the cops in half" demand to the mayor actually be the mayor would have been huge. Actually? None of the levers the city government has that are supposed to do good things are hooked up to anything. The modest SPD budget cut we got and change in chemical weapons policy are probably both going to be found to be in violation of the consent decree and struck down. The cops don't answer to anyone in the elected government in practice. And even if they were able to accomplish something, I believe that if we got a defund/abolition minded city council and mayor at the same time, and they were actually effective, the cops would go fully rogue and either start outright disobeying orders and operating autonomously or they'd attempt to discredit their political enemies by fabricating evidence of false crimes against them.

I'd really like to imagine D&D intended it to be a slap in the face to so much of their audience, holding a mirror up to them, but at the end of the day they're just a couple of rich kids that wanted to move onto Star Wars after getting bored of their old show.
