I guess he was ditching it, but my first though was that he was showing off and got wind shear'd. My cousin used to fly Chinooks for the Australian Army, and he was barrelling along a beach in Western Australia circa 1998, at about 100 knots, around fifty meters up. His CO in the other seat said "how about a dust-up, get down near the deck and we'll give those guys behind us a show!". Well he did that, kicked up a bunch of sand and dust and then when he went past a bit of a cliff on the shore side, hit some wind shear and briefly bounced off the deck. All of the little porthole windows along the sides instantly popped out. They landed and went back and picked up the ones they could find, and then taped up the window holes and nursed it back to base. He was written up for it, of course - a commendation for skilled flying in the face of dangerous conditions and managing to put it down safely after some "unforeseeable turbulence conditions" that affected their level, sensible flight.

I used to get written up for the stupidest petty poo poo but that one was probably justified.

In one way that's understandable: having pilots that are comfortable doing all sorts of non-regulation, difficult maneuvers could be useful in certain situations. More so in an air force than civilian flying, at least.

Minority Report focused on the interaction between predictive technology and criminal justice, but the precog effect on workplace/traffic safety and signage would be huge.

They actually have extinguishing containers for this specific purpose, that's how big a problem battery fires are. A special crane/container truck is no cheap solution, but there is no cheap way of putting out a Tesla.

We'll have to make electric car emergency disposal facilities, like runaway truck ramps except it's a 20 foot deep pit with a pile of sand next to it and a bulldozer

See, I'd be thinking, truck in sand in one of those car sized dumpsters, dump the sand on the car, set the dumpster in front of it, cable it and winch/bulldoze the entire mess into the dumpster, shovel remaining sand into dumpster full of car. Then you can just park the dumpster somewhere for six months to forever. Start a landfill over the top of the roasted teslas, followed by a series of subdivisions. Then in 10k years when our descendents are out dicking around reinventing things, they'll have a lithium mine to discover and strip.

Well it's not like there isn't an abundance of shipping containers we can cut in half and sand that's not appropriate for concrete.

Unless you’re going to pay for a bulldozer operator to live every 1/4 mile of highway, we should think about having them be self driving bulldozers. Maybe make them electric to limit emissions
