More narration from D.

The small bit of human animation they did show there looked good, so here’s hoping they worked out their production issues.

This week's episode is 90% Kumoko, and basically all 3d animation, so last week's problem is largely gone!

They're doing a good job on these fights. Much like the Araba fight, you can really tell Kumoko has been backed into a corner and has to struggle with all her might to keep going. And they're not being obvious with spelling out the thought acceleration, but it's clear that she's using it a lot to survive.

The title for next episode has me really excited for next week.

No complaints about the animation this week so that’s a huge relief despite the late PV.

I swear nice bushes!
Great episode, but as a minor nitpick i feel like Mother should be at least twice as big, maybe even 4 times.

But well that would be much harder to show in the anime.

I think it's because they gave her and the other taratects spindly orb weaver legs. In the manga she's more like a tarantula and it makes her look a lot more imposing.

Forgot to say, a big fan of how creepy they made the Puppet Taratect look.

edit: And how the partially-devoured mind of Mother looked like it was glitching in a video game was cool, too.

Hell yeah this is an episode to really hammer home what makes this series good. These sorts of (episode spoilers) nail biter fight scenes which elevates it above like Slime Reincarnation and similar; I think Tanya had moments like this where things get desperate and its just a way more engaging fight.

But yeah basically what I think has been happening consistently in terms of the shows production is they're just obviously prioritizing Kumo's parts, which would be fine if it were adapting the manga but it seems like they're adapting the LN while not properly being able to adapt Shun's/Classmate's POVs and kinda as a result not really giving us the best the LN (or the Manga) has to offer.

I actually have a question about the fight this episode because I'm not sure what's happening: Why at around the halfway point are some of the spiders bouncing off what seems like a invisible shield? I don't remember something like that at all.

Yeah my complaint would be: That they don't do a super good job at that, it isn't clear to me when things are slowed down for dramatic tension vs her future sight (the answer could be both!) vs the style of animation they use for CGI anime. I wish there was a better visual indicator/sound effect/special effect that they had settled on like when she first got it to emphasize whats happening.

This is good episode, the back and forth is real nice and kept me on the edge of my seat.

I love this running gag where Kumoko is just enjoying life while something scary is happening behind her unbeknownst to her.

So could Mother have blasted her way out of the labyrinth at any time? Cause that's kinda scary to think about, that at any moment this monster spider could burst out of the ground and start terrorizing the world. Good thing Mother is only after Kumoko right now.

A friend told me 'Kumoko should lead Mother into a human city. Sure, they'd probably suffer some casualties, but they'd be able to take her down!'.

...it's probably not a good sign when my friends are more casual about loss of human life than Kumoko.

Did your friend forget that time that a much weaker Kumoko than our current one, who is much weaker than Mother, took down 8 trained professional knights with literally a mean look?

Or the time she obliterated an entire fort dedicated to watching the exit to the labyrinth almost accidentally?

Heeeeeey

Monsters are significantly more powerful than humans in terms of raw stats and I doubt even a fortified city would serve much opposition to Mother. For some reason she seems content to stay in the labyrinth (and make her children do the same) even though she could almost certainly easily crush all human life.

You guys are missing my point. Regardless of the fact that it wouldn't work, I was chuckling at the fact that my friend's first solution to dealing with Mother was 'throw human lives at the problem'. Which... is not offbase for the story we're talking about, but he's going in blind, so it amused me that he was like 'yeah, those aren't main characters, their lives don't matter'.

FWIW I understood your point because it is I feel like something of an actual theme in the show; about treating the world as a game vs treating it as real. You have Shun and Co sans Hugo treating it as basically real; like Shun actually cares for his adoptive family and so on. While Kumoko is like "sweet, new level!" and kinda just consistently rationalizing herself down the path of least resistance.

It was my first thought too but I think it was more of a 'how could she possibly hope to win this?' kind of thing. I agree heavily with the poster who said that a big difference between this and other isekai is that the MC has to deal with actual adversity and earn being OP.

Also regarding the Demon Lord: Kind of expecting them to end up being some sort blending of the Parallel Minds and Mother at this point. The fact that they're consuming her consciousness sets them up for some sort of identity shenanigans and Mother ending up as the big bad would make sense. Mother also has those odd purple sections on her legs which look a bit like the things on the end of the Demon Lords leg-cloak.

Pretty sure Kumoko and Mother are each strong enough to single-handedly destroy human civilization at this point, which kind of raises the question of what's stopping them. Maybe it's admins like D that keep them in check?
