Weird Q- about a billion years ago, the Army was issuing Green Lasers to mount on rifles for Escalation of Force.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If so, does anyone remember anything about the lasers- nomenclature, manufacturer, anything that might help me find one?

We had something called a "dazzler" in 2008 (gently caress I'm old) that was super bright and designed to make you sick. My vehicle got hit with one several times and the scratches on the glass would bounce the light so you couldn't see out of the vehicle at all, which sucked. I never felt sick by it, it was just a really bright green laser.

Edit: it wasn't rifle mounted though, it was itself about the size and shape of a track relay baton

For the navy we had the LA9P. I was briefly trained on them and then never saw them again. They had a little fake rifle mount thing that had the same ergonomics as an M4 but had no gun itself on it. The laser itself was a little lightsaber looking tube that you could mount on anything with rails.

That thing could actually permanently blind you though in the wrong circumstances so I couldn't imagine them handing them out to soldiers all over the place though.

Thanks. Dazzler gor me in the ball park.

I have a stupid 300blk AR build that needs a laser, and I can't find any retro or vintage ones, so I have to widen my idea corral.

I'd just like to remind everyone that today is ANZAC day. Originally to honour those that died at Gallipoli, it's now encompassing all soldiers that died - kind of a "day of the unknown warrior". I'm sure most here are aware of the absolute disaster that was Gallipoli - landed, immediately degenerated into a stalemate, lost many troops trying to break the deadlock, followed by retreating when the powers that be realised what a pointless waste it was.

Spare a thought for those that never came home, and listen to one of the most gut-wrenching songs I've heard.

There's always the movie Gallipoli with a really young Mel Gibson. If you ever visit Australia definitely visit the Anzac memorial (https://www.anzacmemorial.nsw.gov.au/). I went there on my R&R in '09 with some half-family. Would love to revisit someday.

I always keep meaning to try to make Anzac biscuits around this time. All my baking stuff is packed up or I would try now. I think it's just a sweetened form of hard tack? I also want to say there is a photo from WW1 of Australian soldiers spelling out VB in beer bottles. VB being Victoria Bitter, a traditional Australian beer. :australia: There was a beer from the isle of Tasmania that was really good too, can't think of the name. Man now I miss Aussie beer.

The Tasmanian beer I think was Boags. I remember thinking Cascade Light was basically their version of Bud Light, just easy to drink nothing really special.

This was in the middle of a deployment so rose colored glasses might be super tinted.

Yea I was gonna say James Boags. It's just a completely standard beer tbh. Aussie beer just has a reputation for being garbage & expensive. But also light beer is not really a thing down here so no idea comparison-wise

I've been to France I guess about 4 times, I still never learned how the hell to ask for the "1664". I always asked for something that had a tap I could just read in a French accent or "biere du presion" and pointing at the 1664
