The hilarious thing is that former GOP Representative and convicted felon Michael Grimm who just recently got out of prison for tax fraud and is considering running for his old district is in the GOP district most likely to be unaffected by redistricting.

While "rising star" and only female millennial GOP Representative Elise Stefanik is in one of the districts most likely to merge with another GOP district or get more Democratic.

There's no single answer for this. It really depends on the state. On average I'd say they're better than the SCOTUS, so at least there's that. But some states like Texas have partisan elections for judges so you can imagine how their bench looks.

Presuming all the map cases would eventually end up in front of a state's SC

AA is assisted appointment
PE is partisan elections
NPE is non partisan elections
LE is legislative elections

Again, it would be great for Congress to expand the number of members it has. Massachusetts gained 7 percent in population and will not gain a representative. There is no reason to keep the cap at 435 anymore.

Expanding the House would also have the added bonus of diluting the Senate's impact on the electoral college. Each state gets one EC vote per representative and senator, so small states with two senators and one rep are disproportionately represented in the electoral college.

For example, if we doubled the number of total representatives in the House, California would go from 55 electoral votes to 108 (a 96% increase), while a state like Wyoming or North Dakota would go from 3 to 4 EC votes (a 33% increase). It would make the EC way more representative (though still dumb compared to the popular vote).

Mostly the Senate, because you'd have to pass a new law and the GOP isn't going to give up a structural advantage in its favor so you'd need to get rid of the filibuster or get a cloture-capable democratic majority

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trail_of_Tears#Statistics

This is how Sand Creek is memorialized today, btw:

a description of the "battle"

quote:

Black Kettle flew a U.S. flag, with a white flag tied beneath it, over his lodge, as the Fort Lyon commander had advised him. This was to show he was friendly and forestall any attack. However, the rest of Chivington's men immediately attacked the village. Ignoring the U.S. flag and a white flag, they murdered as many of the Indians as they could.

"I saw the bodies of those lying there cut all to pieces, worse mutilated than any I ever saw before; the women cut all to pieces ... With knives; scalped; their brains knocked out; children two or three months old; all ages lying there, from sucking infants up to warriors ... By whom were they mutilated? By the United States troops ..."

— John S. Smith, 1865

There was one little child, probably three years old, just big enough to walk through the sand. The Indians had gone ahead, and this little child was behind, following after them. The little fellow was perfectly naked, travelling in the sand. I saw one man get off his horse at a distance of about seventy-five yards and draw up his rifle and fire. He missed the child. Another man came up and said, 'let me try the son of a b-. I can hit him.' He got down off his horse, kneeled down, and fired at the little child, but he missed him. A third man came up, and made a similar remark, and fired, and the little fellow dropped.

— Major Anthony, New York Tribune, 1879

Fingers and ears were cut off the bodies for the jewelry they carried. The body of White Antelope, lying solitarily in the creek bed, was a prime target. Besides scalping him the soldiers cut off his nose, ears, and testicles-the last for a tobacco pouch ...
— Stan Hoig

However, despite the Joint Committee on the Conduct of the Wars' recommendation, no charges were brought against those who committed the massacre.

So yeah dude, definitely "too complicated to fit under the definition of 'genocide' as we use it"
