Why do you want to kick them instead of muting them? What's the difference for you?

(depends on how obnoxious they are though, if they're just playing chill music etc then just mute and move on.)

Very loud russian screaming (maybe rap there was a beat behind it). And then when that vote passed his friend did earrape russian anthem.

If enough people voted yes to actually kick them then you're not the rear end in a top hat.

On the other hand, if the players you're trying to get to vote yes are telling you to just mute them, you should probably just mute them. If they want to listen to the micspammer's terrible music that's their prerogative.

It's less disruptive to the game/team to have one person start a vote and 10 people press F1 or F2 (or nothing) than it is to have up to 11 people go through the process of muting an idiot.

EDIT: It's also not permanent. People should prefer they be kicked for a temporary cringe lapse in civility than be added to peoples' mute lists and risk future comms being unheard. (Which is why people should delete tf/voice_ban.dt from time to time.)

I was jokingly going to say depends on if you like their music or not but you really run into the aforementioned problem of what if everyone else likes their music. In my experience they're voted out pretty quickly and decisively but man I hate to kick real people in this game all the same. All it takes is a crack and boom you're either full of bots or spending the rest of the the map queuing up kicks for them

Yep. Someone made a new creche of bots today, actually. Bunch of new names and account ages under 24 hours. TF2 Bot Detector puts in work, though.

People have gotten pretty good about kicking them quickly if you've got a enough real human beings but if they get a critical mass it's pretty much impossible to boot them all. It's a crying shame. At least the bots in Diablo 2 are benign at worst and immensely helpful at best.

Is there any real technical reason valve can't just perma all these or is it just disinterest/laziness? VPNs, something? I don't know poo poo about IT stuff

It'd be nice if they permabanned the existing bots, but as long as the game is f2p, more bots can be created easily. I feel like some basic heuristics could shorten considerably the list of suspected bots for a human to review.

* Queued or playing a game for 20 hours or more a day
* In-game name doesn't match account name or drifts too severely from account name
* Threshold of votes levied against account (not successful kicks, as the bots can easily dodge kicks)
* Only plays one class, especially sniper
* Uses unprintable characters in name
* Puts newlines into chat

And so on. You wouldn't want to make any of those criteria ban automatically, but it could easily narrow the list.

A little of column A (F2P game = infinite accounts, virtual computing, IPs are dynamically assigned to 99.99% of users and held short term).

LOTS of column B.

Has Not Actually Done Cocaine
Hence my suggestion of dropping headshots as a mechanic, even without them Sniper can still drop 5 out of 9 classes with a fully charged shot if they aren't overhealed and the other 4 all get dropped to half health or lower

If that's going too far than instead just change it so headshots only minicrit rather than full crit(essentially how the Sydney Sleeper currently works), as a fully charged shot now kills everything that isn't a Heavy, but it still solves the problems that a bot can currently cause by quickscoping headshots, since an uncharged scoped headshot would only deal 68 damage instead of 150, indirectly this would effectively buff the usefulness of Sniper's non rifle weapons as he can't rely on close range quickscope shots anymore, and would also make the Huntsman slightly stronger too as I'm picturing these headshot changes only being for rifles(since the Huntsman fires a projectile instead of being hitscan), in fact thinking this over this is probably the better idea

cock hero flux
Apr 17, 2011

fyi even though the current robot army doesn't do this heavy aimbots are actually more server-destroying than sniper ones because a laser-accurate stream of minigun bullets shreds people about as fast as continuous uncharged headshots and comes from a class that has 3 times as much health and doesn't have predictable pauses in between shots

the actual solution is to make the game cost money again. it's not like it's getting a lot of new players, anyway

Can clients still hack bullet spread? I thought that vulnerability got patched along the way. Perfect tracking is dangerous but still manageable at most ranges.

It's less that you hack bullet spread and more you know how each bullet will spread, so you can adjust your aim for each individual bullet to counter spread. You can tell someone has nospread by spectating them and looking for them to shake their aim in tiny, incomprehensible motions, yet somehow perfectly land every shot.

yeah removing linux support and making the game cost money could help stem the tide of bots, but having played about 3k hours of csgo most of them before it went f2p, money is definitely not a barrier for hacks. the money barrier sure would be nice if it were there tho

Hacks and bots are different. There are still hackers, but they have to at least try to seem legit.

Hackers are ultimately still individual people trying to enjoy the game, so the influence of any one hacker is pretty minimal.

They're way less of a problem than one shithead running a thousand bots.

I like the gameplay, it’s good. Usually balanced matches, always no hackers, and it’s stopwatch format.

In terms of maps it’s basically 24/7 badwater though, you’ll be glad for the once or twice a night when you get to play barnblitz or borneo just to break up the tedium on the maps.

The lack of goldrush is especially disappointing and yet there’s even worse trash like dustbowl in the list. The map rotation needs work.

I guess I should note that the bottom tier of the ranking system is absolutely potato but once you make it up a couple ranks things are fine and generally balanced, so just push through it

Jabor posted:

I dunno but the way it works your selections are more of a “suggestion” anyway, I haven’t been the captain but I think the way it works is it picks the four most popular maps and then both captains take turns eliminating their least favorite maps so essentially unless you get everyone to select 2fort and both captains choose not to eliminate it then you’re never playing 2fort.

You’re just also never going to play anything that’s not Badwater either. Like I said, you play barnblitz and Borneo maybe once or twice a night each, I’ve played harvest once and gorge twice ever, and other than that it’s just a 24/7 badwater community.

But basically even if you unselect everything except 2fort you will probably never go to it anyway because of the way the selection mechanism works. I’ve unselected badwater a lot and I still end up going to badwater all the time because that’s all anyone else wants to play.
