I'm tired of following my dreams, I'm just gonna ask where they're goin' and meet up with 'em there.

Playing more today, redesigned the entrances to my base both from the helipad and the casino and really getting the impression it's a waste of time trying to defend with traps. It maybe has something to do with the patch also landing at the same time as I started moving into tier 3 criminal networks everywhere, but it feels like investigators are just disabling all of my traps, or else getting into fights as they try to leave through the helipad and are setting off traps on their way out.

Edit: This is what the exit from my helipad looks like, and all it's doing is causing far more death among my minions than it ever did when I just had a couple guards posted there with it set to auto-distract.

I really am starting to hate how doors and traps are barely even obstacles for even the most poo poo of agents. They used to sit there forever trying to hack the door but now any schmuck can drop a reinforced door and all the traps behind it in a couple seconds.

I don't think traps are where they ought to be and I'm definitely hoping for some tweaks here but the issues with your setup seem pretty clear. High skill investigators can disable a single trap at the time, if they decide to disable your positional traps (mainly the wind blowers here) then the rest of your combo fails, double up on those wind blowers or combine them with a magnet so the affected squares overlap and they'll almost always catch an agent. Also dancefloors are a stop in place kind of trap so I'm not really sure what those laser walls are supposed to do except stall for a little time without another positional trap combo.

Traps and minions aren't really supposed to mix imo. They should be in decoy corridors, or high security low-traffic areas.

Old saves don't work with the patch? I figure i might as well restart, as this seems to fix some of the big issues I was having, havening an entire floor of command centers just so i can unlock every territory in the map and upgrade the networks in each one.

I ended up just replacing it with a big room full of guard posts again, I'm still losing some minions but nowhere near as much as I was from the traps, but I'll keep this in mind for the next time I build a trap hallway like that. Though it doesn't matter now, it was meant to be several discrete trap combos rather than a single long chain, figuring that the fan/magnets could pull or push the agents from beyond their disabling reach but it seemed not to work that way, so yeah, doubling up next time.

My save still works after the patch.

I think it's at least a couple missions earlier than it was before. When I booted up my save it added the side missions to unlock the last tier of minions while I was trying to clear up Super Agent side missions, but hadn't gotten far enough to unlock the final stage of any of them. I know that's not *super* useful, but at the very least a few main missions sooner than before.

I think they may have overtuned missions a bit, 10s is cool and all but it also feels kind of short.

Not sure about the others, but the low funds warnings are potentially helpful info now that salaries are a bigger concern.

Yeah, traps feel like they're just early warning systems, so I just have a boxing glove at either entrance. The exploding robots have shy'ed me away from putting any in numbers. I'd just prefer my guards and merc distract or beat up the intruders. Though with my layout as it is, my Deception minions get mauled any time a kill squad or super agent goes to the Deception amenities.

Also, seems a stealth nerf went through on not being able to explode a locked-down criminal network. I dunno how I feel about that. I'd rather just be denied using that province for awhile, but the miscalculation penalty is rough in the early game.

A lot of the negative reviews are for what you'd expect - videogame company charging me for extra content a bloo bloo - but someone did mention that you have to start a new game to access the DLC which would be a bummer for anyone who picked up the season pass because the last thing I'm going to want to do is start a brand new game every time DLC releases.

pretty much immediately, i started a new game as max and after the first hench recruit mission and you're out of the early game setup, you can get the next tier minions like socialite, spin doctor, merc, and geneticist. so you can unlock T3 when you've barely started on T1

now it looks like the major obstacle to progression is minion salaries. i dunno if they were broken before or just secret or what but the game is a lot more forward-presenting with vital info, like what object settings do, which objects generate suspicion, how much you'll need to pay your minions and exactly when. minions are expensive now, so while you could trivialize the game before by just shooting straight for 300 minions and training them up, now your growth curve is heavily constrained by having to pay wages, and keeping your minion numbers within your current budget

if you miss a payday, every minion who doesn't get paid gets immediate 0 morale, so keep a close eye on the payday countdown

e: also the world map is speedy now, its great. no more waiting forever for the single helicopter to slooooowly cycle

Feels justified here.

Releasing DLC so soon after initial release makes it blatantly clear it's content cut from the main game to be sold separately.

My headcanon for this game is it's a Silicon Valley Office Tycoon. Most of my lair is amenities for employees, aside from entire floors of generators. I'm building waaaaay more cafeterias than I ever had to in EG1. I kinda wish I could name them after various figures of infamy. The Musk Cafe, Dulles Bros. Coffee, Kim Il Sung Sushi, and Reagan Refreshments :v:.

Though I like how they actually use this poo poo, unlike in 1.

And despite that, it's still got very good bones in it and just needs some tweaks, which they've shown they are good for.

Like, I can understand why people might bounce off it. I'm a brokebrain who's been addicted to idle games for the last month anyway (2 bitburner saves and I'm on my second Evolve run), so the slow pacing was probably not going to get to me. I'm very obviously a fanboy too since I have the original game on my shelf that I got fairly recently after release so I'm just stoked to have this game back again and it's way better than it probably ought to be (you're not wrong about it's origins).

I feel like the thing about the game is that they did design it with the intention of people doing multiple playthroughs, but underestimated how long a single playthrough takes. There are a lot of strategy/management games out there where a patch/DLC requiring a game restart is not that big a deal because you restart all the time, but a single playthrough in EG2, not even a 100% side mission thing, can take dozens of hours.

Eh, could be content that the art team was working on after the main game was finalized and they were doing the last round of bug testing and QA. I imagine that with henchmen, the art/animation/models are the bulk of the work in adding them, so it's entirely possible that the teams that aren't actively working to fix or rebalance the underlying game mechanics are working on the Season Pass content.

E- Which I just now noticed that skooma512 mentioned before I did.

Replaying the campaign isn't a big deal IMO since each of the geniuses have enough individual quirks and entirely different storylines to be worth playing each of them through at least once. For me, that is. Others might get bored after 1 or 2 geniuses.

I still say that Montañas Gemelas is my favorite map so far. Gorgeous area, the tram dropoff is neat, I can compartmentalize things very easy in the two-spire split, and the walkway between the two spires makes for a WONDERFUL trap hallway.

Releasing what is effectively new art assets and one Henchman is blatantly clear that those teams finished first before the mechanics teams and had the time to star their first DLC earlier, especially since almost all the post launch support we've seen has been focused on balance and pacing. It's been two months, that's plenty of time to get this done, especially if your art team has been working on it since you finished the art assets for the main game - often months before release - and didn't let all your artists go (a common industry practice for small studios). People assume it's cut content because they have no concept of how vidja games are actually made and this discussion seems like it happens every time a DLC comes out for any game these days.

there were couple of streamers that slipped with NDA accidentally talking about testing DLC before the game was launched., while devs were dishonestly saying that they didnt know what dlc was going to be.

But that is rather minor complaint to have in my opinion. Its just how modern games extract money.
Its pretty fair that dlc itself is just small stuff, instead of half of the game.

Nope. Salaries are there to introduce a money sink so that you don't ever fully ignore the world map. God knows in EG1 it was possible to very easily build up a fortune then the only time you'd ever bother stealing was when it was a mission objective. Now it's something you're meant to be paying attention to the whole game long.

or they just wanted it to appear like nothing was taken from base game to dlc.
they could have just left the question unanswered or said that they could not talk about it.
But in the end it does not matter at all. like it was 1 sentence in a interview and one sentence for streamer screwing up the NDA, easy to mess up like that.
the base game is fun and dlc's are minor unneeded things like dlc should be.
basically they took nothing important out of the base game. Which is good.
