This is gonna get lost in the TAZ chat, but if you like Beef And Dairy Network and/or Mike Wozniak, (the moustachioed man in that video/Taskmaster), he has an amazing Podcast called The St Elwick's Neighborhood Association Newsletter Podcast, which is an audio newsletter about a fictional town in South West England. It's very funny. Very Beef and Dairy.

Mike also did a six episode podcast panel show, ala International Waters, called Mr. Gameshow, which was very good.

I started listening to St Elwick's on the recommendation of this thread a couple months ago. It's definitely a very specific taste, like if you took Beef & Dairy and made the humor about 60% dryer and removed the cosmic absurdity. Luckily I like that.

Also there are no ads, which is nice.

Haha I listen to every episode and didn't realize it was Mike Wozniak, and it obviously is

Trailer’s pretty, but that’s about it. All we know for sure is the name and that it’s an aquatic setting. Disappointingly light on details, I’ll check again on Thursday.

Actually, come to think of it, if we have an animated trailer already...when did they come up with the concept? Wasn’t it only like 2-3 weeks ago that they started thinking about their new campaign? That’s a hell of a turnaround time for an animation of that length.

I enjoyed it. It did not match highest highs or whatever the hell, but if you're not a stickler on D & D mechanics and/or aren't afraid to listen to a product that doesn't match well against its competition, go for it.

It is better than its start, but whether or not you'll find the patience for that isn't something I can answer.

Edit: I will say it's an insane question to ask in this thread

It doesn't get much better. There are high points and some funny jokes, but the plot remains incoherent and the pacing is never great.

I enjoyed listening to it in aggregate, but there are a lot of frustrating moments. The heist arc, late in the run, is probably the high point, and the finale is a fun episode.

The trailer is pretty cool, and I'm definitely interested in the setting, but it's kinda weird that it features 3 characters so prominently since according to Justin they haven't actually created their characters yet:
https://twitter.com/JustinMcElroy/status/1389251998466387969

Kinda hoping coral headed armor dude makes it in though cause that's a fun character concept. Though I guess they couldn't talk easily which does admittedly limit the potential for goofs

I'm actually really looking forward to the next two episodes. I've heard really good things about the world gen game they're playing and I think it might lend itself well to their style

Since we were talking about Mike Wozniak and Beef and Dairy earlier, I've just this second found a new Podcast, hosted by Mike, Benjamin Partridge (beef and dairy), and Henry Paker (beef, st Elwick's) (They all cross over in each others projects a lot, and wrote a BBC radio series together).

It's called Three Bean Salad. It has heavy mbmbam but British vibes. Three friends chatting about things their listeners suggest, and they improvise a conversation around it. Just one episode so far, but very funny.

It's no better or worse than any other network, I think. They just specialize in conversation podcasts that have some loose premise draped over them.

e: I think one of the reasons I like SPY so much is because they don't even pretend to have a premise. It's just 2 guys talking to a 3rd person, and that's really it.

I'll be donating, if for no other reason than to help stave the mass consolidation happening right now between Sirius XM (Earwolf :smith:) and Spotify buying up so many folks. Independent stations are a thing to treasure, even if I only listen to only a couple of their overall shows.

Yeah for real. I appreciate that Max Fun lets podcasters keep 100% ownership of their podcast, which is an insane thing to type but the process of leaving Earwolf with your full podcast rights intact is an ordeal.

There is crazy money being thrown around by big companies trying to corral podcasts. Roman Mars just sold 99% Invisible to Sirius/Stitcher for enough money that he was able to make a $1,000,000 donation to PRX/Radiotopia on his way out.

https://twitter.com/romanmars/status/1386752064454230017?s=20

I have my doubts how well the rest of that network will be able to do without the flagship podcast though. What's the next-biggest podcast on Radiotopia? Criminal?

Speaking of podcast networks, Season 3 of TWIOAT was pretty drat funny in that episodes would regularly have a standard edited-in-by-the-hosts ad ala moneyzone, but also a network-injected ad for Hello Fresh, and also a different auto-injected ad at the start and end. By funny I mean tiresome, except for one time when an auto-injected ad started immediately after one of them said something like "Ok, here's my American accent impression,"

When bigsofttitty.png first went to the Sanspants network, whichever one was editing would purposefully put a network ad break in the middle of the other one's sentences. The ads were also set regionally, so some people would get ads for Subway ava KFC, and others would get recruitment ads for the Australian armed forces and casinos.

Travis' instant 'yes' to Justin saying Charlie is 'unnerving' is why Travis is good.

But yea despite not really listening to much MaxFun stuff this last year I kept my donation going, maybe this will show me some shows I should subscribe to and at least I know the McElroy poo poo will be solid.

It was a month or two ago. Griffin fell in love with the concept of rolling for random poo poo on charts after playing Fitzroy, did some digging, and discovered hex-based exploration campaigns.

Be prepared for a lot of rolling for random poo poo on charts in Ethersea.
