we had 841 deaths yesterday and 35,000+ new cases. while numbers are trickling down in terms of infections, it's because masks are on people's faces. We are nowhere near that 60-80% fully vaccinated rate they said we needed and I assume they're just giving up because they don't think we'll get there due to the downturn in vaccination demand.

Love that Ohio scheme. I'm guessing that the people who love lotteries are also often the same people who don't want to get vaccinated. More states should try that.

Also like the idea to tie masking regulations to overall vaccination rates.

I think not wearing masks outside, while still social distancing with strangers, is totally fine and even overdue. The true danger is indoors and large outdoor crowds.

Not wearing masks inside is insane at this point I think, regardless of vaccination status because as has been mentioned people will just lie and put themselves and others at risk

So far it looks like my state is not hopping on the CDC bandwagon, but we'll see. I also can't help but wonder if the "masks still required inside businesses if they say so" exception is an attempt to punt some of the regulatory burden (blame) onto corporations, like what happened in Texas and other places that refused mask mandates.

It really, really depends on your situation. Are you on a jogging trail with very little breeze and everyone is staying way the hell apart (since they just said that it can spread more than 6 ft)? Yeah that's probably fine. Or like, outdoor yoga that's got everybody very far spaced and has little wind.

But gosh there's way less of that and way more of closer-than-the-majority-thinks-type outdoor activities. I keep going back to my local farmer's market, but it's kinda just what comes to mind. People don't realize there's 60 people within 10 ft of them and 3/4ths of them don't have their vaccines (statistically, because Georgia is like 48th for vaccinations)

Yeah, not wearing masks inside when vaccinated is one of those things where I think it would make sense in a world where all people are both honest and rational but in reality it will just be used as an excuse by idiots.

Also I want to think the lottery thing might make a difference, but we need to do more. The people I think we need to be reaching at this point are the people who aren't anti-vaxx, but are lazy, unmotivated, etc about getting the vaccine. Basically I think we got through most of the people who badly wanted the vaccines, but need to get to these less motivated ones now. They are the kind of people who only get the flu vaccine if they happen to have a DR's appointments in the fall and the DR offers it or if their work has a day when people come in and give out shots. I still think the thing we need to do is find a way to make it convenient in a way where it's at a thing they'd already be going to. Hold vaccine drives at baseball games. Put a booth right outside the grocery store, etc. Hell, hold events at bars where you give out vaccines.

It might actually work, republicans become 18% more eager to get the vaccine if it means they no longer have to mask or socially distance.

Yeah and my guess is you'll be allowed to take off the mask to eat and drink so like in restaurants the whole thing seems sort of pointless but the leg room does sound nice.

Don't see how this would work without the enforcement side of things. They can already not wear masks and if asked just claim they are vaccinated. So they are gaining nothing, from their perspective

Yeah that's where I'm at pretty much. I've already had my mask off almost 100% when I'm outside, at home, or sitting at my desk in its own office. But directly next to strangers is just a bridge too far right now. Luckily that is only like 5% of the day at the very maximum

I don't mind masks as much as the distancing and all the weird practices that places have had to implement. I am looking forward to places operating more or less as normal soon, even with masks.

I will probably keep a mask in my pocket for the foreseeable future and wear it as the situation or place I'm at dictates

it's not like, an official Thing that any app I've used asks for, but from what I've seen it's relatively common to state your fully-vaccinated status in your bio. People intentionally not vaccinating don't usually outright say it, but given the beliefs that tend to go along with that stance it's not hard to deduce.

Last year I was still on the dating apps even though I was too paranoid about catching the virus to go on 99% of dates. This was before the vaccine though. However bringing up the virus topic made it pretty easy to weed out the idiots. Which apparently was drat near everyone I talked to. Hell back in May of last year I was seeing "So now that Covid is over I'm ready to get back out in the dating world" on more than a few girls profiles.

So rather than rely on what newspapers or goons are saying, I went and checked out the CDC themselves. They say their latest information suggests much less chance of asymptomatic transmission by the fully vaccinated than had previously been thought. So, yeah, I'm putting the mask in my pocket (against the possibility of encountering a crowd).

That said, I ate at a diner yesterday and was as nervous as a cat the whole time. This "other people" stuff is going to take a while to get used to again.
