Don't know where you are, but there are very few on dealer lots where I am (Toronto area). If your friend doesn't care what model or trim etc specifically then they might get one sooner than I'm going to get mine.

There are a few but it's pretty low stock actually

I still don’t get the crazy spending on pickups going on now. All of a sudden people are becoming landscapers or something? Is there a good reason I’m missing?

I could see wanting a two seater during a pandemic though, “sorry I’d love to give you a ride but there’s no room”

Sometimes I watch the Mecum auctions on TV, and I'm baffled by the bids that perfectly ordinary pickup trucks and SUVs from the '80s and '90s are getting. I'm not talking about niche stuff like GMC Typhoons or SS454 models, just random ubiquitous trucks that somebody parked so the miles aren't too bad are pulling in $15k+ sometimes.

Possible reason might be the crazy amount of home renovation that’s gone on during the pandemic.

Don' say we neva did nuthin fah yuz.
I bought a 2016 M235i last summer. It just hit 36k miles and I think the only option on it is the upgraded stereo. (maybe the sapphire black metallic paint?) I paid $24k for it, which I thought wasn't great - but not totally unreasonable for a CPO car within a driveable distance from where I live, etc etc. I just looked at current prices and, holy poo poo guys, I could sell this thing for 4-6 grand more than I paid for it. That's asinine. (I won't. I like my car.)

At the same time though they really aren't making small trucks anymore so I could see the smaller sized trucks retaining value. I don't need a $fuckoff big F150, I just want a ranger or a tacoma and i'm basically SOL unless i pay through the nose

There's no way a 10 year old Ranger is going to retain that kind of value once dealer supplies are back to normal and you can get a new Tacoma anywhere for 26k.

Buying a used truck now is actually pretty dumb unless you absolutely need one. You're better off buying new or just waiting.

Ford is bringing a new sub-Ranger sized picked to the US later this year iirc. Also that Hyundai thing is out in a few months.

A Dodge Caravan is more practical than most pick up trucks. Larger, flatter cargo area and it's enclosed.

Not sure what the used prices on those are right now though.

Honda Elements make amazing small pickup truck replacements as well. As a result they have held value amazingly well. This conversation is kinda funny because the driveway outside consist of a S10, Element, Sonoma, and Miata. Almost all of those cars have shot up in value here recently.

You know we recently felled an oak tree on the property. The main trunk is still there, I wonder if anyone would be willing to buy it off of us for the lumber instead of paying a tree guy to deal with it it.

No one is going to pay you for one tree that they need to take down and transport. Not even 5 trees. You don't get into being paid for raw lumber unless you've got something on the scale of acres of trees.

You might find somebody who wants to mill it in place, if it's reasonably stout and long. I doubt they'll pay you for the pleasure, and it'll probably take a couple weekends and generate a lot of sawdust. Up to you whether that's preferable to paying someone to take it. Post about it on Facebook / Nextdoor / whathaveyou.

I don't know man everytime I go to the gym here there are like two huge dudes with raging high and tights snorting Nitro-tech off of each other's rock hard abs.
I have lamented the death of the truck shaped car in America since the mid-sized pickups started to dwarf the full-sized pickups of the 90's

Thankfully, as far as utility goes anyway, city size work vans have popped up to fill that niche. Shame that they just don't appeal to me in the same way a Datsun Hardbody does, and none of them seem to come in manual
