I'm still not really prepared to trust any of that guy's safety assessments, but that is pretty cool about the unsegmented diamond blades not cutting skin. I was more afraid of sudden unplanned disassembly of the blade if he twisted the piece during those freehand cuts, but if it's abrading more than cutting I could see it being less dramatic than wood on a table saw. Is running the cordless drill under the dribbling faucet less of a problem than I'm thinking too?

He probably just has a water-proof or water resistant drill, which makes sense if he's often working with rocks and water. You can even get underwater ones for divers, so I imagine consumer grade water resistant ones aren't prohibitively expensive.

SubNat posted:He probably just has a water-proof or water resistant drill, which makes sense if he's often working with rocks and water. Brushless motors have no exposed electrical components, and even brushed motors can run fine (for a while) immersed in water. In fact, in the old days of the radio controlled car community, running a new motor underwater for a while was a voodoo trick that supposedly helped the brushes wear in more evenly for better contact and more power. The most risky part of the drill to submerge would be any control electronics, and you don't even need any if the drill is simple enough. Battery, multi-position switch on the trigger, motor. Done
