Marching Powder posted:actually i just remembered a story from i think bisping who got knocked out but autopiloted to victory and came to during the result announcement. he said he was heaps excited but back stage everyone was trying to get him into the ambulance and he was saying 'no, i won, what are you talking about?' and finally someone asks him 'what year is it?' and he thinks for a couple of seconds before asking where the ambulance was. Pat Barry told a story about the Kongo fight where the last thing he remembered was cracking Kongo really hard. He came to with someone right in front of him. He figured it was one of his team mates and said 'we got him, didn't we?' but the figure responded 'can you sit up?' and he immediately thought 'I'm already standing up. How can I sit up if I'm already standing up? You're a terrible doctor. You should be fired' Also, if you've done grappling in Australia, you've probably heard of Paul Cale. He told a terrifying story of getting knocked out and waking up in mount, with the ref pulling him off the guy. Marching Powder posted:i absolutely cannot believe the ref didn't call that for pat. i forgot that cheick was known for things other than punting dudes in the balls He was also known for terrible wall and stall decisions despite looking like the first draft of a Tekken character before they toned their body down to make him more believable.

I think at the last presser Dana said they would stick to the current crowd free shows at the Apex for the near future because that’s what they had budgeted for. Who knows if he’ll stick with that now, but that was the word as of Saturday night at least.

Who knows if he’ll stick with that now, but that was the word as of Saturday night at least. While that is correct (I believe he said "rest of the year", not just the near future) this was in the context of asking whether they'll be back to Florida and Texas again this year and also about going elsewhere, basically he's saying he'll only go to places that are fully open where he can have a full gate, not partial capacity. Even if the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas is now one of those places, that doesn't mean UFC just gets to book it for every weekend, and it has no bearing on their ability to go anywhere else.

I may be misremembering, but I thought the part he was talking about was specifically Fight Nights and smaller non-PPV stuff that they would have already planned to hold locally. Not like it matters much. They seem dedicated to packing the house as soon as possible regardless of health outcomes either way.

NObodyNOWHERE posted:Not like it matters much. To the extent that the UFC live-attendance demographic could still be getting vaccinated, a month or two delay on next live events would still mitigate spreading. I would guess the extent is low, but who knows.

I mean that it doesn’t matter much in that the UFC seems committed to doing mostly the dumbest thing possible with regards to pandemic health and safety at all times, so it’s more of a surprise if they sacrifice the gate and maintain current plans. UFC is coming back baby and super-spreading events to an arena near you.

Have these attended fights been considered super spreader events? Are we far enough away from the events to be able to trace new infections to them? I haven't seen any stories or reports, related to those worries, show up in my news feed so I'm genuinely curious.

UFC 261 was in a full indoor stadium on April 24 and numbers have been falling consistently in Florida and across the country since then. Knock on wood, but it seems as though we may be back to the point where it’s okay to have attended sporting events again.
