I went to Haifa in 2016 for a company event and my first interaction was at 5AM in an empty 24h coffee shop with the employees - I told them I'd taken a taxi from the train, and they immediately said "I hope you didn't get an arab taxi driver". These were like 20 year olds. I immediately understood that this is just normal day to day comments for them, and there's no way the situation wouldn't evolve to something much worse than it was, especially considering Bibi

One of the insidious things about the birthright propaganda tour that I wasn't expecting was how they use sleep deprivation. All the activities are mandatory and you are on the bus at 7am (or 4am on the day you hike Masada) and at the hotel at 11pm, and of course that's when the partying starts. They corral a dazed, sleep-deprived busload of people (including the IDF soldiers that join each birthright trip mainly to facilitate the partying it seems) to whatever nationalist tourist site where you see a rousing video of the declaration of independence or whatever. Then we get back to the bus and I'm like "gently caress that was boring but at least I got a nap, am I right?" and I look around and half the group is all teary-eyed or even bawling with the emotion of it.
