exquisite tea posted:Video game writing suffers immensely for being so focused on exposition. The scripts for any standard 50-hour RPG are probably all thousands of pages long and I'd guess that 50% or more of all dialogue is usually dedicated to completely flat, uninteresting explanations of something that happened, how things work, or what you should do next. I always appreciate game scripts that at least attempt to define these elements through the gameplay instead, or have the confidence in their vision to not explain things at all. That being said I don't believe in skipping cutscenes for any reason and mentally associate all those who do with people who just decided to hock up some spit on the sidewalk. A lot of this is often true. That said, "show, don't tell" doesn't mean "don't tell." If you're careful, a lot of that exposition can be used to show character and politics while telling necessary or unnecessary backstory- some dude is way too enthusiastic when explaining the benefits of cooking local herbs, two people from different cities have wildly different takes on the same historical event, a scholar talks about how other people think about the nature of reality but never tells you what she thinks about it. Hugely recommend Adios if you're looking for a game that does this extremely well with a very limited cast.

"Henry the Eighth", as in, a penny weighs one eighth of an ounce. Which is probably useful in cooking or something Unless it's the "tuppence" you weirdos don't get.

Yeah, candidates for coroner are usually police-approved so they'll find that the black dude died from an overdose and not the nightstick shoved up their rear end that rearranged their internal organs.

Managers have been told not to even raise the subject with the people under them. I do understand not wanting to kick a hornet's nest, but this still seems like a big failure of leadership from an otherwise pretty drat progressive company. This might put lives at risk. Fortunately, I haven't seen much sign of antivax sentiment in the company, but it's always possible I'm just not in the Slack channels where chuds congregate.
