They're clearly helium sacs to keep 2/3rds of the snake's mass off the ground, which is counter to the way snakes actually work.

Two Beans posted:lol who buys brushes just use lint you find on the ground c'mon son I don't have any issues with paying £££ on the finest Kolinsky Sable brushes (and I do) because there is a meaningful difference in performance when painting. However, "airtight plastic container" and "semi-permeable membrane" are ubiquitous and using fancy marketing to justify a 100x increase in cost for what is essentially cosmesis deserves to be mocked since no one is interested in a Ham's cave. I recently upgraded my old wet palette which was a Warmachine blister filled with the same foam it came with to a 3d printed design. The total cost was £3 - £2 for the palette and £1 for a 4 pack of sponges. It's even magnetised!

I use an old Ferrero Rocher box, but there are things about it that could be nicer and spending $30 or whatever on a nicer version of something you're going to spend hundreds of hours using seems perfectly reasonable. I mean I'm not going to, but still.

I have and enjoy using the army painter wet palette. It wasn't that expensive and I spend many hours painting every week so it was money well spent for me. Looks much nicer than the cleaning sponge on a cheap plastic tray thing I was using before! We are however, off topic.

Looks much nicer than the cleaning sponge on a cheap plastic tray thing I was using before! This is why I decided to buy a wet palette. I use it a ton, spending thirty bucks for one is a pretty insignificant cost in this hobby, and it looks a lot nicer than keeping actual trash on my painting desk.

There's a middle ground between buying a branded wet palette and using actual trash to cobble one together. Who doesn't have some tupperware containers lurking in the back of their kitchen cupboards? Mine only looks rough because I use washes and varnishes off the lid.

This branded wet pallette costs less than my branded airbrush, and they both cost way less than the branded resin, plastic, and metal I've applied branded paint to. Here's a picture of a miniature from the internet I found.

This, pretty much. I spend enough money painting these stupid army men that 30 USD for something that looks and feels nicer than a takeout container and a sponge, and keeps my desk a little better organized, is entirely reasonable. Anyway, in the spirit of the thread, here's the surprise I found on the dog model from the Kill Team Rogue Trader box.

Army painter do one for half the price There are 3d printed ones on etsy for a quarter. I can give you a stl that you can print for pennies. Just saying you have options even if you don't want to go down the takeout box route.

Z the IVth posted:Army painter do one for half the price As far as I can tell, the Red Grass Games one is £30, and the equivalent-sized army painter one is £25. RGG do have a more expensive, but, importantly, also larger one available. The advantage of the professionally made ones are the lower profile, compared to using a tuperware box. It really doesn't seem a too bad idea to buy one if you have limited space for painting. 🤷

I made my wet pallet out of a Ferraro Roche container; bonus being that I got to eat a box of Ferraro Roche. http://mrdadsminis.blogspot.com/2019/03/wet-pallet-using-ferrero-rocher.html?m=1

I've been painting minis for close to 20 years, and I've never had a loving wet palette. If you're just some amateur hobbyist, the gently caress would you ever need more than a decent brush, a cup of water and some paint?

Well if someone is asking about how to get better at painting as a newbie they've clearly gotten past that hurdle. And it's three very basic pieces of garbage. If you don't have them lying about the house maybe you should reconsider your choice of hobby since even a single 28mm base costs more than that.

I'm not sure what's so hard to get about a purpose made wet palette probably being nicer than one constructed from garbage. Yeah its good enough but hey some people might want something nicer. I mean my current wet palette constructed from garbage is much nicer than my previous wet palette constructed from garbage so even there there are tiers. If people want to spend their money on this then sure, why not, who cares.
