From what I remember it was more or less a joke in the Hells Kitchen TVIV thread that if a contestants signature dish had any spice at all Gordon was going to chuck it because he has no spice tolerance.

It's always funny to watch him make some cultural dish and talk about everything he's putting into like he's some expert, and then someone from that culture tries it and says it's trash.

He also outcooked Ramsay on his own show while actively getting drunk on camera so that tells me who I would want to cook for me and when.

Funnily enough, in one of his recent videos a James said he actually thought Gordon’s fish pie was better and he now makes his more like that.

I watched the first episode and him just taking the piss out of how these sorts of shows are made was great. Those types of shows don't make me want to cook, but it does give me ideas on what I want to make for myself and James being as utilitarian as he in some of that appeals to me in that aspect. Like yeah, I could use the proper single purpose implement for the proper preparation of some special ingredient and make it look elegant as gently caress, or I could just use a santoku with somethign I picked up at a bodega and get about 90% of the way there in looks and it'll still tasste and end up the same.

New Top Gear America is somehow getting worse as the season goes on. I could barely finish the episode 2 weeks ago and have had no desire to watch more. It's just completely devoid of any fun and is way too staged even by Top Gear standards.

It's just completely devoid of any fun and is way too staged even by Top Gear standards. I haven't been able to watch TGA or TG since the schism. Hammond/May/Clarkson are such lightning in a bottle that it makes anything they do watchable. But the TG franchise seems to rely on the typecast characters to recreate it, and they're just hollow. Just like the youtube hoovie/tavarish/ed TG-wannabe series, it all just smacks of trying too hard.

TG, at least, is getting less mean spirited than it started. That sort of really turned me off of it at first. It wasn't ribbing and pranks, it nasty stuff and you could feel genuine angry reactions bleeding through gritted smiles. It wasn't fun. They've backed off of that so it's not hard to watch anymore, but it's is pretty bland too. I think it's because their challenges don't seem to have a narrative to them. Let's have your SUV tow you! It was a neat stunt, but it didn't really go with the whole theme other than "SUV, tow something". Their cars don't break enough either.

They obviously have the budget, but just produce garbage with it. Just so much effort into trying to reproduce the formula like they're filling in mad libs. hoovie's show is so much worse though. It's just Wheeler Dealers without any of the fixing stuff. Just buy car > read the wikipedia entry on it > "cost too much to fix so i'm selling it".

I was talking about the Hoovie/Tavarish/Ed TG-copy videos. Hoovie's channel used to be fun and interesting, but once it became Look At All My Lambos I lost major interest. Same with Tavarish. When he was finding his way through the turbo Lambo rebuild, he was approachable. Now that he's "rebuilding" McLarens and doing Turbo Supras for sport, it's just not realistic.

I feel that way about a lot of car channels. It's fun for a while, but then they start doing weird poo poo. I liked Samcrac because he rebuilding cars himself. I was learning things and learning about new tools that have been useful. But then he started buying expensive cars that he couldn't work on himself, so he'd ship them off to some other youtube person's shop, and then he started doing cringy videos with that porn actress.

I really wanted to see the "Soviet Cars across the Soviet Union" they probably were making. Unfortunately COVID-19 and the current Putin shenanigans in Ukraine will postpone it indefinitely. And I personally cannot see Clarkson making it in 4-5 year timescale. Jeremy found a time machine that made him 40 years older in 20 year timescale. And yeah, Grand Tour has too much money. Its funnier when they have to shoot with an (alleged) budget. And where is the "Scotland travel episode"? It was shot something like 1 year ago? That’s what normal 60yo people who smoke and don’t take care of themselves well look like, as opposed to Hollywood 60. Of course Clarkson looks rougher than Clooney, he also started out much rougher too.

The editing and presentation is very Top Gear/Grand Tour-esque with how things are cut and how Clarkson punctuates things. Still partway through episode one.

AFewBricksShy posted:Is it any good? The Hammond/Tory from Mythbusters one sucked and I usually like things Hammond does. It definitely seems better than the Hammond one if only because it feels like an extended Top Gear documentary featuring Clarkson. It's literally just a mix of Clarkson faffing about and running through some of worst poo poo in the UK between September 2019 and wherever it leaves off. I've only finished the first ep and it's pretty decent and informative so far. Edit: In case you were curious, Clarkson's GF is 15 years younger than him. Ep2 is dealing with his newly acquired sheep and stuff like breeding and shepherding. Edit2: Jeremy is now having a bunch of ideas that aren't actually terrible for once, but he does the unthinkable: He says nice things about Caravans and Caravanning.
