I feel like there was a decent amount of attention on Kumoko this episode, at least with things that are currently relevant to her. The only Shun thing was them buying a cape for Fei, really. The rest was concurrent and focused on things our protagonist is directly involved in, so it felt a lot more relevant at least. Albeit the amount of jumping back and forth in time this anime does... I feel like the manga really did the smarter thing omitting all of the human stuff.

Kumoko being a spanner in the works for all these villains is a lot of fun. I love plots where an elaborate evil scheme is foiled by an oblivious hero just showing up and doing something heroic. If you’re going to have an overpowered protagonist in an isekai story, this is how you do it.

Yeah eventually only showing Kumoko's half is going to catch up with the manga, I wouldn't say it's inherently better.

I'm surprised the manga didn't simply just split the story lines into two different concurrent manga adaptions, that would've been best and you can just add in additional content for the humans that gets glossed over/montaged over (although the LN content is vast compared to the anime). But slight disagree here, while the manga can be reduced to "Kumoko getting strong" the manga conveys amazing atmosphere, there's a reason why before reading the LN I described it as being "dark souls as a spider monster".

Those are people who appear at both points in time and look about the same now as they did 15 years ago, so I can understand losing track sometimes in their scenes (Dustin, for example, had a brief scene in the present and then a bigger scene in the past this episode that I know are going to get people jumbled up).

Holy gently caress at long last there's at least one character on the non-spider side of the cast who is not behaving with breathtakingly stupid levels of credulousness and naivete. The constant and unconditional trust for sensei was one of the most annoying parts of the classmate side of the story. God I hope this continues. Even if it turns out she is on the up-and-up, her actions just toward the main cast have been incredibly shady and warrant at least some mild suspicion.

I feel kinda bad for Ariel she just wants to smash the bug that's eating her mind, but she's getting unknowingly dragged into war she probably doesn't want to fight. Although it is funny seeing Potimas go "hmm this must be Ariel's doing " before cutting to our protagonist freaking out.

That was a little disappointing as far as the final confrontation between Kumo and Mother goes.
